Oh, they're cultish... Drive through Asheville. There are exactly 4 types of vehicles there. Jeep Wranglers, Volkswagen Jettas, Toyota Prii, and all the models of Subies...

We got ours for 22k...retail is around 24k.
We shopped other vehicles and any with awd were usually 4k or so more.
20k-30k is mid priced for most new cars unless you remove Kia then that would be the bottom of the scale.
To get below 20k you are looking at kia..maybe hyundai..and maybe 1 option from each major brand such as the Honda fit.
A quick story. Guy came to our ccw class with a hipoint 45 ACP . Every body talked shit about his pistol . There were Kimbers ,Sig's ,Rugers ,S&W revolvers And a Colt python. The guy shooting the Hipoint ate the X ring out of the target..the X ring circle was completely gone. . That pistol shot great. I asked if he would let me try it after every one was finished . Sure if you have some ammo he said. I was the line safety officer for the class . So back to the 15 yard line I went . I fired about 20 rounds slow and we'll aimed.
Every round went to the x ring. I have never bad mouthed a hi point again . They will not last for as long as a S&W ,Colt ,or any of the steel guns since the are pot metal. .But if $150 was all I had to buy a pistol I'd probably buy one for protection. I am also a gun snob.Love my quality handguns I Like better quality firearms like S&W Sig's,Colts and Kimbers. I will also say that since I retired I drive cars for a local Subaru dealership. The are GREAT cars . All wheel drive ,comfortable awesome gas milage. Drove a 2018 6 cylinder Outback today and averaged 37 mpg on a 230 mile trip. . The Forrester and Crosstrek are great on gas and comfort to. .I wish I could afford a new car ,it would be a Subaru. .I think they are some of the best cars on the market and unless you want all the options that are available they are reasonable . I am as southern as you can get. Not a left wing democrat and may have a touch of red on my neck. Just a "good old boy" who knows what he likes.
