I’m sitting at a dance class for my daughter and there are 2-3 boys in various classes here. How do little boys get into dance classes at ages below I’m guessing 7 or 8?
When I was a kid dancing was the farthest thing from my mind so I was a little surprised. I guess down the road you might be able to pick up some dance chicks but you’ll be fighting the friend zone hardcore.

They have to be pushed but an older sister or a parent, I can’t believe a boy that young would want to dance although I could be wrong.

Sometimes they have an older sibling who is in it and they want to emulate them. Other times they like to dance at home and parents want them to be active but boy don’t like sports. And some don’t want to embarrass themselves on the drag queen runway..

Get over the stereotypes!!!

Males can be dancers without being Gay! I have, over the years, danced with both. The gay dancers were more timid but, hetero guys would learn the routine faster.

Get ever yourselves!

My oldest daughter danced competitively for 8 yrs and every year there was more and more boys at the studio. Only 1 was there that was influenced by a parent (the owner’s son). The rest were there because it was what they liked or it helped them in traditional sports (baseball and/or soccer were the prevalent sports). The days of wondering why boys are in non-traditional athletics are over.

I dont think there is anything wrong with it if that's what they want. I wanted to shoot and play ball.

Some kids just like to dance.

Nothing wrong with dancing. If I would have had the time and money, there were points in my life where I would have taken dance classses. Not a damn thing wrong with wanting to better learn how to control your body. I can also double dutch jump rope, sew, cook, braid hair, and wear the hell out of a French maid outfit... forgot where I was going with this...

My little one is in tap dance class. She and two other girls and 3 boys. I will say, if they have any interest in theater, dance class will help them secure a lead role. It also helps when they are that young (These are 4-6) to learn to take instructions and seems to help memorization as well. I did gymnastics when I was kinder age, big sister competed on a state level. I left when I discovered how much fun basketball was. But, one of the guys that started same time as me, ended up competing through high school and was offered several athletic scholarships. Ended up going to Citadel, and now plays with multi-million dollar robots for the gubment (EOD for Airforce) I know of 2 guys that got partial athletic scholarships for cheerleading. Dance and gymnastics are just another extracurricular in my mind. Beats them sitting on the couch playing with a tablet or game console!

their parents pay the money to get the little boys into the dance classes.

Hell, I was a marching band geek, and tried to get a florist apprenticeship when I was in high school.
But back in those days only women were allowed. :(
I still think I would have been good at it.

Kids are weird.

I have a friend whose sons asked to leave a Taekwondo class to join gymnastics at the same sports center.

I used to think gymnasts were....not right. Then, I got paired with one as my freshman year roommate in the dorms. I was in a 2 room suite, the other room was the starting tailback and a linebacker. This was at Michigan State, so these guys weren't scrubs playing DIII.

Gymnasts are....freaking bad ass athletes. Compared to the 2 football players, this guy could have lifted and run circles around either of them. He (gymnast) ended up on SEAL Team 2 with several deployments overseas. Recently retired as Senior Chief.

Have three cousins from the same family. They all had to take tap dancing not sure why. Oldest is normal, next one effeminate and the youngest full on gay. Take from that what you will. Maybe dance is gay additive. I dont know but there are strange things going on in this world.

Some interesting point have been made here that I didn't think about. Especially the one for flexibility and supporting other sports, never thought of that.

I never said there was anything wrong with it, I just said I was surprised and that it never crossed my mind. I was an athlete and ended up studying music although I'm not sure one helped the other.

What's the immersion therapy? Driving a BMW convertible?

Wearing tights and being a momma’s boy. That’s a bad combination. Next thing you know you are French kissing your GI Joe action figure and filling tour Tonka truck with shiney beaded necklaces.

I despise soccer, but former soccer players have great footwork in basketball and other sports. Cross training has its uses.

Dudes in gymnastics and dance are usually strong as hell. I wish I would have gotten into it at some level when I was younger. Probably would have helped me with weightlifting in regards to flexibility and core stability.

never wore a leotard. The pants were a little tight, though :)

I took an odd path to this: football/baseball/track > figure skating > hockey/softball. I like all sports. And skating was a good way to pick up girls (it worked... I found a wife).

Growing up in Eastern NC, skating wasn't something I was exposed to, and I like to try new things. How many offensive lineman can do a Salchow? (well, after 25 years and many pounds, I tried it a few months ago and I landed it, but it was very ugly)
