I just purchased a quantity of Winchester AA 12ga low noise low recoil shotgun shells. They are quite expensive, but I do get a $2 per box rebate. Anyone have any experience with other brands of low recoil ammo for 12ga? I can't seem to find any alternatives. Thanks.

My usage is home defense only for the time being. Federal FliteControl LE is what I use for buckshot 1145 FPS. 66 cents per round delivered. Fiocchi makes low recoil slugs at 1150 FPS. 77 cents per round, delivered when there are free shipping codes. Sportsmans guide usually has the Fiocchi in 80 round cans. I got a case of the Federal through Target Sports USA. They also have the Fiocchi. Neither one has ever failed me. I've blasted 50 or so of Winchesters and had no problems either. TONS of the Fiocchi because most indoor ranges want you to use slugs, at least thats been my experience. My current range allows buckshot as long as it is FliteControl. Either way it all goes Bang! Ain't cheap though.

Edit: OOPS, I did have a couple Fiocchis that weren't perfectly round and wouldn't feed. Otherwise all good, and I only use them on the range, so no worries.

If you are looking for low recoil shells for use in a side-by-side in cowboy action matches I would not buy a large quantity until I determined how well they “shuck” out of your double (SASS rules don’t allow automatic ejectors in a side-by-side shotgun).

I ended up buying a MEC single stage press to make my own cowboy 12 gauge shells in AA and Remington STS hulls. When I can find good prices on reclaimed shot I am saving money.

I tried a few Remington low recoil slugs but they would not cycle my 11-87P. They worked fine in my 870 but I use the semi-auto for HD. If anyone knows of a reduced recoil buck or slug that will operate a gas gun point me at it!

My 11-87 SP reliably cycles the low recoil federal 00 buck. (LE13200)

You didn’t identify the use, such as for birds, matches, or skeet. What size shot you looking for?

Two ways to get low recoiling ammo. First reduce the payload and second reduce velocity. Either you buy it but they are not as economical due to lower production runs or you reload your own.

there's always the third option: get a heavier gun. My 1940's model 12 heavy duck has some lead in the stock ;)

My 590s love Remington 2 3/4 low recoil 00 buck. Patterns very well and the recoil is very controlled. I pick a few boxes when I can.

Sorry, I should have been more specific. Cowboy action shooting in a 12 gauge double barrel.
Ok. Carry on. I know nothing of this game. I do know Aguila has large and small shot in half shells but don’t think they fit the use. And for half a shell they are expensive but an excellent way to introduce kids and women to the shooting sports.

I’ve used Remington managed recoil 00 buck in my mossberg shockwave and it was really easy to shoot compared to the usual Remington 00 buck. I would definitely buy it again.

Fiocchi here, as well as some Rio before. Both worked really well in my single shot and 870. Definitely wouldn't cycle my M1S90.

Federal just released the following: SHORTY SHOTSHELL: Although just 1 ¾-inch long, Shorty shotshells offer similar patterns, energy and accuracy as full-size counterparts. Now available in 12-gauge 8 shot, 4 buck (15 ct) and 1 0z rifled slug loads.

Hmmm...

Wonder if they work without any kind of adapter? I know the mini-shells need one, but is the line drawn between minis and shorties, or shorties and standard?
