I'm in Wilmington, we had a storm last year that really screwed some stuff up... Fortunately, my damage wasn't terrible but, a friend lost everything.
When we were able to get to his safe it had been totally submerged.
Of all his weapons, the only one he was upset about was his grandfathers (war trophy) Ariska 99
Its not a valuable piece but, apparently it is to him.
I've had all his guns since the storm and cleaned and preserved as I could but I'd really like to have the Ariska 99 Cleaned up (rusted) blued and the stock refinished before giving it back.
I talked to 1 LGS and he quoted what must have been an award winning show stopper type restoration.
I'm looking for a steel wool then blue, sand & refinish type job. The gun was not prestine to begin with.
Anyone interested?
I'm in Wilmington but can get it to you.
Please let me know.
Thanks!
Rob

I can't help but I'd like to say that this is a great thing that you're doing for your friend.

I stood next to him while the excavator demo'ed and loaded his home & everything he owned into dumpsters...
He's been through a shit pile.

Had the same thing happen to my hunting partner. The water level go to the porch light on his house. He lost most everything. He got out on his boat with important papers and such. A couple of his guns got left behind. He put most in the attic but a few he forgot about were still left below water level. One was a Stevens 67 series E. When he got back to it the stock had swollen to an unbelievable size. It stuck out almost half an inch all around the butt plate. I told him I would take care of it and had no idea how. I just put it in my shop and left it for a couple of months in the heat. Went out to start on it one day and it had shrunk back down to size. Just had to get a few parts to replace some that were damaged and it was good to go again.

Oh yeah he had to tear his house down too. He was down stream from the waste treatment plant. It was not pretty. He built up a dirt mound on his lot and rebuild in the same spot.

ok, are you wanting it to look back like it was or do you want it like new? I'm thinking you want the blueing to look like new but to be honest if you don't redo stock to look like factory it would kinda look odd. Either way to make it like it was before it got flooded it could be done a lot easier and cheaper by doing this way instead?

Definitely want stock done too.
There are no splits or needed repairs so I was thinking sand & stain.
Metal parts: De rust and cold blue...
This rifle will never be used or handled much and rarely see the light of day.

This thing has led a long exciting life... Definitely don't want it looking new!

I’ve seen a video of a guy that took an older gun that was rusty, and just boiled in water then carded like you would rust bluing. Came out great, but left it with some character. I’ll try to find the link.

I have heard good things about Precision Bluing in Creedmoor, NC but have never used them. I plan to send them a beat to hell Remington 1100 that was my grandfathers but project keeps getting put on the back burner.

I will get some pics in the morning.
I watched some YouTube... Thinking maybe I'll try.
I'm having a shoulder replacement next Friday, gonna have lots of spare time for the next month or so.
