As a Glock and 1911 guy, do I want a Sig or a CZ? I'm thinking of broadening my horizons...

9mm only
Range use
Unlikely to carry as it would have to displace a G19, a G43, and a Shield

Sell me.

You want a CZ Shadow 2, accushadow or CZ 75 SP-01.

They’re awesome.

You thinking DA/SA metal guns or the poly striker fired versions? Both great platforms, I've got poly CZ's and Sigs, hard to go wrong with either, probably should get both.

Oh, one or the other, huh?

CZ75, hands down.
I have a P226 and an M11A1. Two very smooth shooting, absolutely trustworthy, go to war guns.
The CZs are the same at a fraction of the cost.
That said, I just like my CZs a little better. Both have ok triggers out of the box. I put the short reset in the Sigs and it made the triggers tolerable. I put short reach and short reset triggers in my CZs and they are pretty fricken great.
Both guns have a similar level of aftermarket support as far as holsters and accessories, but the CZs seem to have a bit more as far as customizable internals.
Even without all that, I have some bone stock CZs that smoothed up very nicely after about 500 rounds or so and are quite the shooters.
And lastly, there's a saying that says 'You get what you pay for' but imho you get a little more than what you pay for with the CZs.
You can go with those high dollar Shadow 2s or AccuShadows CDR Glock is talking about, but if it's range use for you and not competition, Id start with something a little more basic and work up.
Dependant upon how close you are to me, I can put the P226, M11, and several different CZs ranging from stock to full custom in your hand to try out if you want.
The invitation is open.

I’ll pile on...I’m a CZ fanboy...no doubt. Good triggers, good ergonomics, excellent aesthetics, wonderful price point, decent aftermarket support, and they all come with a free coupon for a soy mocha chino latte with non-fat vegan foam.

I don’t like metal frame Sigs. Super high bore axis. Crap control locations. Over priced and over rated. Meh.

Get a Shadow 2 if you have the money. If not, an SP01 is worth every dime, and relatively cheap.

I like the feel of the CZ family over a SIG
And it points more natural for me..
Shadow 2 is my next buy once I hide some coin from the wife

Having owned multiple Sigs and CZs....the CZs I still own (3 to be exact).

To be fair, if it wasnt stolen I would like still have my West German P226. It was pretty sweet once I installed a short trigger.

Sig P320 is more like your Glocks. The steel frame CZs more like your 1911s, except the ones that have the DA first trigger pull. CZ 75B SA would be way more like the 1911s.

I cut my teeth on SIG classics and therefore I always have a soft spot for them, but I shoot CZs better and they have better options for customization if you go that route (especially trigger work)

For range use I would suggest the SP-01 too. I’d order one from CZ Custom or CGW. Think you can get one with a sweet trigger job for mayne $900 or a little less. If you are skilled enough just buy the CGW parts and DIY the trigger.

I have 1911s and bought a sig P229 I like it but the slide will not lock back after last shot because my thumb always ends up on the slide release as it is in the same place as the safety on the 1911

If you're wanting to stick with poly striker fired look at the CZ P10c. If you like Glocks I can't see you not liking this. It'll even fit most of your G19 holsters. Hammer fired steel gun, I'd say any variation of CZ75. So I guess I'm saying CZ either way. :)

I have a few of each brand, the p226 gets shot the most.

It comes down to personal preference, but I would say CZ is the answer.

I've never been impressed with the Sigs I've shot or handled. Sig is one of those brands I have zero interest in.

As far as a CZ or a Sig you better be careful, be extremely easy to "displace" a glock 19 or 43 with either of them, some of their models will shamelessly run a glock in the dirt in a plethora of ways. Not a bad choice between the two.

I have one of the old 226 police trade ins I got for cheap a log time ago. Never had an issue with it, hasen't been shot alot, or carried too much. I don't have alot of CZ experience, except I've had a few of their motorcycles years back, But metal framed ones that I have shot, they always seemed to work and shoot fine, but I felt it awkward with my big ass front paws and fat fingers to grab and hang onto the slides, they were a little skinny for my liking.
I do have a 4" Sig 1911 too that I like..

I had the same exact issue with my p229..was the reason I traded it for a P01. ;)

CZ any day of the week.

However...…. IMO some models need a trigger job right out of the box..... but I am a trigger SNOB. I've done a few myself and it's not too expensive or terrible to make them better. However..... the Shadow 2, Tactical Sport, Single Action or most from the CZ Custom Shop or Cajun Gun Works come with a great trigger (and some other nice features), but you also pay for it!

Nothing wrong with a SIG though, I'm not a fan of striker fired pistols, but some of theirs (the 320 comes to mind) have a very good striker trigger.

I traded my G19 for a CZ 75b and have not looked back. I liked the thinner grip and the SA option without giving up capacity.

A lot of the double stack Sigs have clunky feeling, overly thick grips IMO. So it's more like the Glock.
