Hickory, NC gun show this weekend (3/16-3/17)

Haha. Last guy murdered at IHOP was wearing a hoodie the local news reported. Come dressed to kill as they say.
That’s why I’ll be directly behind the guy wearing the hat. :D

How was it today? I might go tomorrow.

Very busy after we arrived.

The only way to have improved would have been more butter on my sourdough toast. :)

Found this cheap... shot it at Jeppo's and learned that it is purty good shooter but it has timing issues. Probably not an expensive fix. I'm gonna clean it up real good, then leave it with someone for some tweaking and a new hammer.

The timing issues might be the fault of Jeppo’s range.

It might not be timing atall... could be that someone swapped barrels and didn't get the alignment right. Every now and then, a fired round would shave a piece of lead that would fall down into the mechanism.

There's some wear as well. I was messin' around with the Dan Wesson, and found that if I lightly pinch the cylinder as I dry fire it, so as to give the cylinder some resistance, it will come around to a place where the cylinder stops but the rest of the action keeps going. I can hold it there and cycle the trigger and hammer repeatedly. Looks like there may be excessive wear in the cylinder notches.

The pictures did not come out well. That gun looks much better in person than the photos. If the timing gets better it will make a very good self defense gun. Solid purchase.

I managed to not spend but $10 on some beef sticks.

It was nice meeting everyone- @Jeppo, @MacEntyre, and @LeeMajors.

I spent $10 also. But, instead of edibles, I bought a box of .38 shootables. :)

Crowd was huge Saturday, but pretty thin Sunday. I wound up buying two Colt SAAs (one 1st Gen, one 2nd Gen) and two Colt Model 1908 Vest Pocket pistols (one almost NIB, one heavily worn). Also bought a fairly rare Ruger P89X, with barrels in 9mm and .30 Luger. First time I'd held one in my hands. Was a pretty good show for a small town.

The 2nd Gen .45 SAA is a keeper. Made in 1957. I have a quasi-collection of pre-1960 2nd Gen SAAs. They can be pretty tough to find and it is like getting a 1st Gen gun, as they were using a lot of leftover pre-WWII parts and new parts made on the same pattern. Makes for an interesting collecting niche.

Talked to several forum members. It was a good weekend.

Wow! P98X is unobtanium, only 6000 made, if I recall correctly. I would also be excited about an almost NIB Colt 1908.

I joined the Dan Wesson Forum and posted pictures, described the failure that little 357 was having. Their Registry has enough entries to bracket the serial number... it is a 1979 Model 15-2. They have a sticky called Average Joe Tuneup for Model 15-2. They say Dan Wesson revolvers were designed by Karl Lewis not to need gunsmiths for most repairs. He pioneered drop in parts as opposed to hand fitted. So, I'm gonna disassemble, stone the wear surfaces, replace the springs and set the cylinder gap. Then we'll see if that makes it hum! If it does, then I need a 4" barrel & shroud.

Remember, Cubrock... your mission, should you choose to accept it, is To Find A Dan Wesson 41 Magnum Revolver. This post will self destruct in 30 seconds.

Most likely it’s the gap for when the barrel was disassembled and no gap tool was used when threading in the barrel. Nice trigger pull on that pea shooter for a revolver. I forgot to go back to a table before leaving. They had a 1979 Playboy magazine with Raquel Welch on the cover. The most lusted after woman in my youth. New in package.

A Dan Wesson .41 Mag is unobtanium, too. I’ll keep my eyes open, but I doubt you will like the price if I find one. LOL

I would pay a $1200 ransom for one... especially if it had a couple of barrels.

But you are right, I won't like it. As soon as the money is gone, though, and the 41 mag DW is in my hands, the feeling will pass. ;)

I just finished the Average Joe Tune-up on the Dan Wesson 2 1/2" Model 15-2 357. It works a lot more better!

Jeppo, I need to shoot again, soon!

Edit: cylinder gap is 0.006"... dunno what it is supposed to be.

Ok, looked it up... 0.006" is ok, but 0.005" is better. Some folks set it at 0.003" if they have a real true cylinder face.

I’m anxious to see the results Bubba. ;)
