So I’m dealing with some vandalism on my property, destruction of 13 of my apple trees to be exact. We live in the middle of no where and off the main road, have for almost 6 years now. Never had an issue like this but now I’m thinking it’s time to set up some type of security camera. I’ve worked hard and put up fencing and a gate but the damage was done along the shared driveway, someone drove over several of the trees turned around and got some more going the opposite direction. Filed a police report but there’s little for them to go on and I find myself wishing I had video evidence.

I won’t be able to connect to WiFi mainly because it’s too far from the house and also we don’t have the bandwidth regardless. I’ve started looking into cameras that operate off a wireless network but I’d be ok with something that simply records.

Any suggestions on what might work for me?

At least two in the trees so they will not be noticed, can capture all vehicles for the tags.

I think I will do trail cams up near the gate. Problem is there’s no where to conceal them along the fence line. I’m wondering if there’s a camera I could mount on the barn that could capture movement up to 30-40 yards away.

multiple trail cams are gonna get expensive. I would would get one of those 4 or 6 camera CCTV systems that are everywhere nowadays, and tie them into a web service. Or you could get a big vicious dog.

we use 7 trail-cams.
the 3-pic-burst gets the clearest images.
the only problem we have had is night-time
pictures of license plates. since they are reflective,
they tend to overexpose and drown out the numbers.

I think you can place whatever you want along a driveway, unlike a roadway. Get yerself some boulders.

First ... agree on the trail cams for sure to get the evidence.

In addition I’d suggest on your land run some “camouflaged” 1x4’s ... 10 to 12 feet long with 4” framing nails every 3” across their most likely paths. High grass or such will hide them pretty decent if the idiots are doing a fast drive thru. Also stake each 1x4 down into the ground at each end and in the middle.

Thinking about it, one drunk in 6 years, probably not worth doing any of the above.

Trail cameras are pretty good a catching certain types of people, at various times during the day, doing who knows what.

Ended up installing one of these

Reolink Go [US Version] 1080p 3G/4G LTE SIM Card Outdoor Mobile Cellular Security Camera | Solar/Rechargeable Battery-Powered, PIR Motion Sensor, SD Card Slot/Cloud Storage, Weatherproof, Night Vision https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07DW38ZGQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_u-PRCbV8C5FPF

Mounted it under the barn roof and installed a solar charger. Been working flawlessly. It’s nice to be able to open the app and see what’s happening live. Got an alert this afternoon, opened it up to see my boy out there working. I’d recommend it to anyone who needs surveillance but doesn’t have access to WiFi.

What is the monthly $ expense of the Reolink?
Cell service etc?

Depends on what you want. You have to get a SIM card from a supported carrier and purchase a plan from them. I went with AT&T. Started with unlimited data so it’s like $60 a month but once I see how much I really use I’ll probably knock it down to a cheaper plan.
