When I went to the recruiter I told them about the metal plate in my face. He asked if it ever gave me any problems because it’s not visible unless you know what to look for. Said no and he told me it would be an immediate disqualifier. So he then asked one more time if there were any medical conditions that he should know about. I said no and it was never spoken of again.

No, none, never

If you bring your younglings to Sicily DZ at Bragg this Thursday morning for the 82D ABN DIV Review...this will be you new reality.

Hahaha!!! Division used to get so pissed at us (PSYOP) on the rare occasion their guys jumped with us, because we'd always end up recruiting a few of them over to the little Army.

Ted Nugent gave free tickets to USASOC for a show at the Durham Performing Arts Center a few years. Pretty nice venue, not a bad seat in the house & Uncle Ted put on a great show.

I had a Joe in Bosnia who couldn't be on time if his life depended on it. Told him to buy a watch & he whinges about if the Army requires him to know what time it is, they should provide him with a watch. Not a problem, jackass. I got this. Went to supply & got one of those big-ass plastic office clocks, secured it with a 20" loop of 550 cord & provided him with a time piece. He thought he was Flava Flav for a day or so, till every NCO in the camp pointed out to him what a douche bag he was. I thought I'd gotten him turned around while we were over there, but within 6 months of coming home, he & another problem child in the unit were busted for knockin' over a buncha pizza joints & liquor stores in SC.

I saw a dude get a OTH discharge for something flaring up that he lied about at MEPs. Only time I saw that. It doesn't come down on the recruiter; he has nothing to lose.

Me, they worked me up for a medical discharge for hearing probs, but I had seen and given the hearing test so many times I gamed it.

How long did we keep the C47 in service? I know I jumped a couple in the early to mid '00's.

Id be very surprised id it was a c47, i know we had c147 that were being held in service in that timeframe until the number of c17s was acceptable, but never saw a skytrain on the ramp at pope other than the airshow.

Thought the C47s were all retired in the early 70s. The one I jumped in 92' belonged to the NC Forestry Dept and contracted by SOCOM. That bird was built in 43' IIRC.

I grew up in Kinston seeing the C-47 on the ramp at the airport. Last month I decided to try and find out where the old bird is.

If it was the NCFS bird kept in Kinston, NC she is now on static display at the Southern Museum of Flight in Birmingham. Numbers were turned into the FAA a few years ago.

Summary of her life. https://aerialvisuals.ca/AirframeDossier.php?Serial=74511

She spent some time at Ft Bragg before being sold to NCFS.

At least one was done up in WW2 style livery, but the others were usually white or silver. One of the funnest birds I've jumped, with the nod going to the CASA strictly for going out over the ramp. Jumping the CH-47 was fun, but the ride SUCKED balls.

UH-60 jumps were always fun, sitting in the door, tryin' to keep yer feet outta the tree tops, till they pop up to altitude over the DZ & the JM smacks you on the head & hollers 'GO!'.

Jumped all static line out of C-141, C-130, C-17, C-47, CASA 212. Helos UH-1, UH-60, CH-47. Foreign AC C-160 (West Germany), AN-222 (Italy), Super Puma (France), DH-8 (Kenya). Helo casted UH-1, UH-60, CH-47, CH-53, SH-3, CH-46. Sure I forgot some. Most rememberable was in 07', I was a jumping jumpmaster on a Night C-130 Ramp Combat Equipment jump over Bragg. No 1 jumper was my oldest son jumping into Robin Sage. Can't say I threw him out but he followed me off the ramp. Pick dark night.

That is too cool, jumping with yer kid like that.

Never got to do the helo-casting thing, but I've jumped all the same American birds you listed, minus the Huey. They were long gone by the time I was finally able to get to jump school. Was TDY & missed out on jumping a German CH-53. Only foreign bird I jumped was the C-160. Did you jump with the Fallschirmjaeger very often? I always enjoyed jumping with them & as the most junior fluent German speaker in the command, I went on every jump with them to 'liaise' & translate for our guys.

No, didn't jump with them often. My partnership unit was a German Engineer Divers in the Alps when in Bad Tolz (got my German Bronze Dive Badge with them) or later the KSK when in Stuttgart.

We never did anything with the KSK, even though a few of us always managed to miss Malmsheim DZ & end up in their kaserne. Did get to train a bunch with their OpInfo Bn (PSYOP) a lot though, both at Bragg & in Germany. Always had a great time with those guys. Spent a week with 'em out near the Polish border & man, do those guys bring a shitload of liquor to 'the field'. Swear to God, they were trying to kill us from alcohol poisoning. Lol! Good dudes &some very squared away NCOs.
