The original made for Jeff Cooper by Milt Sparks is the single best holster for the 1911 platform...FOR ME. You will find many on the market made by Galco and at least 6 or 8 more name brand makers. NONE are like the original. The give away to tell if it Is the original is..the entire holster is made of ONE piece of leather. All of the ones now are made of at least 2 pieces and some sewn and some screwed together.
While this may sound like a trivial matter, sometimes nothing works as good as the original. You can go to YT and see the Old Master shooting on his Donga Range as he walks along engaging targets. As I have told several people I an tell more about a man's familiarity with his side arm by the way he reholsters than by the way he draws his gun.
One last thing...there is a member of our community that can Exactly duplicate the original Cooper-Sparks Yaqui Slide. I am certain more of our fine leather artists on CFF could also and I am certain there is a market for The Original. They sell thousands of the ones that aren't right, surely folks will buy the real deal. I and Mine will.

Props to the Chief! He's got my Shield securely held wherever I go.

Mines certainly not a Yaqui. More of a minimal pancake. I know a few guys that really liked the slide though.

@BatteryOaksBilly got any pics of that Yaqui?
I'll try to find one Cat. The original one that I had is long gone. It is being duplicated for me in a sort of "mortified" way. The original was made from a Single piece of leather. That seems to be the failing for me of the current ones. I also want mine made in a Neutral cant, straight up and down. The Original had a slight cant.
Google. Sheriff Jim Wilson-Yaqui Slide. Good stuff. History and all.

I don't have a pic of @Bailey Boat’s holster. It's a pancake without the sweat shield and the bottom does not extend much lower than the belt so the muzzle is exposed.

Like all things holster, the Yaqui has a lot of interpretations. Some are not even close. And some are just really poor interpretations. To be honest, when I first heard Yaqui I was only familiar with the piece of junk 2 piece with elastic and a clip on it. Ugh, that is ugly. If I get time I might tinker with something more original.

As to one or two piece, it's simplicity and cutting efficiency. Odd shaped patterns tend to take more leather. Even to make the same thing. The odd cuts on the hide make for more waste. And a lot of times it's easier to put pieces together rather than use one piece, even if it means more stitching. For my pancakes I use 2 different weights of leather, heavier on the back and lighter on the front. Can't do that with a one piece. And that might be what folks are doing too.

Mine, like the Yaqui, sits almost even with the belt on the top line and is only about an inch longer toward the muzzle. I've had my share of Yaqui's and when @chiefjason agreed to make me a holster I "improved" on the shortcomings of the Yaqui. One of the big features was to have it straddle the belt loop at 3:00 on my pants/shorts to assist in carrying the load and positioning the gun in exactly the same position every time. Needless to say, he succeeded... It's all I carry..
