I've determined I can buy buckets of wheel weights and sort them and sell a little lead. My question is what kinda price will the market handle for pure clip on wheel weight lead. I'll sort and keep the soft lead separate. I was hoping to get in the ballpark of $1.75 per lb. It would still be worth my time at $1.50, but I'd just hoard it for much less than that. Am I off base? I searched cast boolits, but no one seems to be selling any. Thanks for your help.

Can buy 50 lbs for $69 ppd on ebay, if that's a help.

I doubt you could sell enough at that price to buy a cheeseburger.

Unless you are in a bullet making business, lead is something that you buy when you find a deal.
It would be hard to find a constant flow of customers unless you live in a state where it is banned, at the prices you have suggested.

But hey who knows ...

A buck a pound plus shipping is kinda the norm.

If you are largely unknown, folks may not buy simply because they don’t really know how well you sort out, vs melt in, zinc weights.

Bottom line is that you would probably make more money with a lemonaide stand.

That said, if you want to trade for brass or molds or other casting stuff, lead is a convenient currency if you have to time and inclination for the sorting and smelting.

Thanks guys for the tips. If it's that cheap to buy, I may just hoard a couple tons of it up and sit on it until the supply runs out. As far as sorting goes, I sort everything by hand and keep all the soft lead separate. There are one or two zinc ones out of a five gallon bucket of clip ons that might get by me, but I never get the lead hot enough to melt them, and just skim them out with the clips.

If you have the time and inclination, stack it up and maybe one day the price will rise. Honestly I’d suggest sorting it but just leave it in WW form. I’ve seen folks buy a cheap job box or truck tool box, put it out of the way, and just toss them in there. Ne need to put more time and expense into them just to hoard them.

I don't mind making ingots of them. I'm aiming to shoot 50k rounds this year, so I do plenty of casting and having a bunch of ingots around is never a bad thing. Plus, I could always unload them at $1 per lb and still make a good profit on them, just not what I'd like.

Any problems you guys see with muffin shaped ingots? They fit it lee 10# & 20# pots. They end up weighing about 2.25#. I just hate how slow pouring 4 1# ingots can be, when I can pour 24 2.25# ingots in one shot.

No problem at all. I have a bunch.

I save stick on weight ingots by themselves and can mix it in with clip on weights if I choose, but many people smelt them together so their clip ons go father

I have some stick-on that I plan to use to pour cores for swaging. Haven’t done it yet.

I know I'm reviving a dead thread, but any idea if that is still going on? Couldn't find that.
Yeah ebay comes and goes, folks think it’s gold some days. Prices at castboolits are more consistent.

I do it as I get time, but I sell it for $1 per lb on ebay plus 12.80 shipping for up to 50#. Probably sold 5k lbs since may. Found some cheaper sources of lead and have got in with all of the tire shops in my area.

Can I get a discount for picking it up. I'm running low.
