What's a guy from South Eastern Massachusetts doing here....good question ;-)

My wife and have spent a fair amount of time in the Carolina's and we're pretty sure that's where we are headed when we finally escape MA. Other than saying hello and poking around, I've got a few questions which I'm hoping some folks can answer for me. If it would be better for me to post these in another area of the forum, say the word.

I currently shoot IDPA/USPSA club matches and I'm lucky enough to be 30-40 minutes drive to 3 great clubs with monthly matches. Are there a lots of clubs in the Carolina's that have active "action shooting" programs ? Is there an area that is better than others (ex Peidmont, Coastal).

How common are home/private ranges (aka shooting in your backyard). Not talking 300 yard rifle, more like IDPA practice pit. The thought of having something like this on my property makes me feel all tingly ;-)

Hello..and thanks.

Welcome to CFF, enjoy the forum

Welcome to the CFF family. One word of caution...you know how every family has the crazy uncle? Well, we have two of them. Good luck!! :D

Welcome to CFF and the South, we like it here.

Welcome and thanks for joining up with us here.

If you want to shoot IDPA every weekend you'll want to look at locating to Wake county and points southeast of there. We are sort of the eastern third of the state. The central part of the the state ("piedmont") hosts more USPSA matches.

I grew up on 5 acres of scrub pine and honeysuckle. Dad carved out a place to build the house. All the stumps were pushed up in a pile in the back corner of the land. For the past 45 years we've been pumping lead into that mound. It should be declared a EPA super fund dump site. When mom and dad are.gone I'll have to find another place to shoot.

Welcome aboard! Given the obvious exceptions, back yard ranges can be quite common. Where I live, if someone isn't out back shooting around here it's because there are severely adverse weather conditions (and sometimes even then)!:)

Welcome @eddiezoom
First thing, how’d you hear about us?

Second, you can shoot a match every weekend down here is you want between IDPA, USPSA, Steel Challenge, 3 Gun. I live in the Charlotte area and there are about 12 clubs within a 2 hr drive

Hello from Raleigh. I escaped from NY in 1990.
The money you save on car insurance will support your reloading fund. :)

Welcome.
We escaped from MA back in 2008 3 weeks before "the worst ice storm in 50 years."
Took a 40% cut in household income going to a single income. We live better down here than we could in MA. Bigger house. Could afford to replace decade old cars, better life in every possible way.
Longer summer and shorter winter are added benefits.

Come on down and bring plenty of ammo, cause this bunch loves to burn through it.

Welcome @eddiezoom

I'm active on a similar forum for those of us from the Northeast (northeastshooters). During a trip to the Carolina's a while back I posted about visiting Palmetto State Armory (which no longer sells/ships to MA) during a drive from Charleston to Wilmington and joking that it was a real place and like a Walmart...but with lots and lots of guns. A few of the responses were from folks that had relocated to the Carolina's and one of them recommended getting involved in a forum to get a feel and feedback from people living & shooting where I want to be....here I am ;-)

Move to the Triad area of NC
It's about dang perfect.
There are small cities (WS/GSO), lots of country, and youre not too far from either the beach or the mountains.

Oh, also, from where I am there are quite a few gun ranges within an hour drive, and several (that I know of) that offers competitions of different varieties.

Come down, join PHA
