Here's a pic of how it currently sets. I have a $3000 fridge I bought a few months back and has been sitting in the garage of the house we rent, waiting for us to move. The new fridge is 1.5-2" too tall for the current space and about 3-4" too wide.

Is my only option to remove the upper cabinets and the left side thats attached at the ceiling?

No... the other option is to sell your current fridge and buy one that fits... [emoji14]

Honestly, I wouldnt start hacking on expensive cabinetry to that extent. If it was a matter of minor trimming, that's one thing, but 4 inches is a major alteration.

we had the EXACT situation at my Mom's house.

details:
we removed her 44-year-old refrigerator.
it STILL ran really good...but my sisters said it was not EFFICIENT.
so...she bought a new energy-efficient (whatever) one and donated her old one to the local thrift shop. when it came time to INSTALL, the top of the new one wasn't level. right. the expanded insulation created a "dome" in the center which meant it could not slip into the old spot because of the overhanging cabinetry.
bottom line: my Mom (her money, not my choice, my sisters and i need to talk) spent $1400 for the unit and installation which saved her $18 a year in electricity.
we all hope she lives that long.

Your house is all nice and clean-like. I wouldn't even know where to begin.
With the dishwasher where it is and the way the other cabinets and countertops are arranged, yeah, the only option with the new fridge is to get rid of the upper cabinet where you keep the booze, and the tall pantry cabinet. That's a fairly big job. It basically means ripping the hell out of everything in that area and starting over.
Of course you could put the fridge in some location that would drive you crazy, like on the other side of the microwave, but I'm betting there's a door there as well.
Not to mention, the dedicated electrical circuit for the fridge is in the fridge hole, so you'd have to do something about sufficient power in the new spot.

That's some fairly extensive cabinet work. I wouldn't be real motivated to start hacking on it. I'd probably cut my loss on the new fridge (sell it) and get one that fits. In the grand scheme of new house blues, if that's all you gotta deal with, that's really not too bad.

Looks like they installed a 12" deep pantry, sideways. One solution is to remove the pantry, cut it down to 8" or 7" deep, and reinstall it. Make a filler out of the side out cut off to attach to the back of the pantry and the cabinet above the fridge. You're going to have to lose the deco door ends on the pantry. The problem is that the fur down will no longer line up with the cabinets, if you try to make it, you'll have to start working on the ceiling as well.

The easiest solution is to buy a new fridge that fits the existing opening.

I'd start thinking about the upcoming kitchen remodel.

Remove 2ā€ of floor? o_O

But seriously, thatā€™s one bitchinā€™ kitchen. Congrats!!!!!

Was the white fridge included with the house? If so, keep it until you find a replacement. Going to be much easier to find one that fits rather than reconfiguring your cabinets. Hopefully you bought the $3000 fridge at a steep discount hoping to use it later in your upcoming move and can sell it with out loosing to much.

from what I see, it is doable. plenty of soffit space above, and if you slide the pantry cab over you still have plenty of room to get around it... sure it will stick out but it is not really narrowing the hallway...

is this the rental or your home??

Yes, I guess the new fridge will continue its life in the garage. Sheā€™s never even been plugged in!

Everybody needs one. You're ahead of the game. Now, just think how much fun you'll have fridge shopping....

On second thought...gut the kitchen and start over.

When you hafta put a fridge in the garage, it makes it look like you meant to do that when there's a kegger tap handle sticking out of the door...;)

Had the same problem years ago and it was an easy fix! I put the fridge against another wall and put one of my gunsafes in the fridges place Always felt really safe when I was cooking or eating:) I miss that place!

Why not just cut the bottom/floor off the upper cabinets, and have the salad bowls and tupperware resting on the top of the refrigerator?

My wife had the great idea to buy a fridge from a previous employer because ours was old and one of the things in the door was broke that holds things in. I told her I needed a day to measure and make sure it would fit, but it had to be gone the same day. We picked it up late that night and wrestled it into the house. Itā€™s about 2 inches to wide and 2 inches to tall. Now weā€™ve got two fridges in the kitchen because we have no garage. The old one is still working and still gets used daily.
