CA man shot with stray .308 round after dirt bike riding

Looks like a 7.62x39 bullet. Hodge rd is infamous for free-fire shooting. I sure wouldn't go near there.
 
So Forgive me if this is stupid, I look at that picture and I see a perfectly shaped bullet. I hunt with 308. Anytime I have recovered the bullet from an animal I have harvested it’s always deformed. And that bullet looks like it could almost be loaded and fired again?
 
Sorry, but this was the first thing I thought of when I saw the headline.

FMJ probably with a steel jacket copper clad and near the end of its velocity. If it didn't hit bone it wouldn't deform.

Yeah the location of the bandage makes me think the bullet was dropping straight down and broke the skin just ventral of the clavicle and just dorsal of the rib - maybe grazing one or the other.

Which makes him lucky it didn't penetrate very far.
