Need some divine help on the job front

Gotta keep everything by the book for the tax man. I'd love to get cash. But then I'd risk getting it taken by a rogue PD that claims all cash in the amount this would be is drug money. Then a lawyer would want at least half to sue to get it back.
Sorry but I don’t see the issue. Assuming your employer does proper accounting, the cash would be accounted for as part of your 2019 W-2. If you’re worried about the bank reporting the cash deposit, divide it up into several smaller deposits. As long as you had income tax deducted (or make an estimated tax payment), you’re GTG.

As as dishonest as his boss is never trust him. You never know the depths this person would go to.

True. But I'm not sure he would risk a felony charge in North Carolina and revocation of his naturalized citizenship.

If you're working for a corporation, what felony crime would he commit?

A civil case will be the way to go.

You give me cash, I give you hardware back.
I worked with a guy who was an engineering consultant. Let’s say he once had to do an emergency software update for a client after he (unexpectedly) got paid by them.

I have a friend, working as an engineering consultant, who walked into the customers shop and popped the ROM chips out of the product when he didn’t get paid.

Have you heard from your ex-coworkers since you talked to the boss?

I work over by the fairgrounds; I've actually been in (what I think is) your building, when they were a sub to us on an SBIR. We'll have to get together some time.
