NRA's Other Shoe Just Dropped

Ol Wayne - unfortunately - came out on top. My take is that the Cox, North and others were trying to push him aside so they could actually do what the NRA is supposed to be doing - advocating for gun rights. Wayne has made himself a rich man 'leading' this organization for a very long time, it's past time for change.

It’s time for Wayne to go home. He is the reason I quit giving anything to the NRA. He was a complete —- to me at a convention in CLT. I am a Life Benefactor Member but that the last they will get from me until he leaves.

This NRA story has all the plot points of a Banana Republic coup d' etat.

I gave up on the NRA; would love to see them rebuild and become a useful organization again. Sadly, I doubt that'll happen, and we'll need a different group to fill the void.

Wayne will never willingly leave the NRA.

There are various reasons but the biggest of which has to do with the corruption that would come to light if he was no longer in power. The NRA doesn’t provide a complete report on it finances. There so much graft and shady dealings it isn’t even funny. What we have heard so far (like him having the organization pay for the chick’s apartment he was banging on the side) is the tip of the iceberg.

If he goes then whoever the reformer is will kick out his cronies that have been covering for him. Once that happens, someone will open the books. It wouldn’t shock me to learn of activities that are criminal. These people have been robbing the American gun owner for decades. And they are quite adept at it.

Nepotism has run rampant. People have left the organization only to roll into a consulting gig that paid even more that their regular job but with less work.

So Wayne can’t afford to step aside. He would be vulnerable to all sorts of repercussions if he did. As long as he is in power he can keep the worst of it hidden.

Kind of like Congress, another origination that needs a major overhaul.

I think the problem will fix itself. Many long time members (including me) and many not so long time members are done with the current NRA and will not be renewing memberships. They are reportedly already on the verge of bankruptcy.

That does it for me! No more NRA membership renewal here. I wish GOA had the power the NRA does. Looks like I'll keep my GOA going, and maybe join GRNC! Anyone have any other organization suggestions?

The only reason I am an NRA member is because I am forced to be a member in order to have a membership at my shooting range.

Pisses me off so much.
I think several ranges require this. It might be time for these ranges to back another association.

Oh man, I hope my range doesn't do that! I'll be signing up for another 6 months soon.

There's not one organization that can remain true to their values in the "cesspool". The 2A is doomed if all that keeps it alive is good intentions and donations. The only way this country will ever return to it's former self is the formation of a national TV network solely for the promotion of those former values and I'm talking a non PC open forum for all Americans, nothing that resembles the spoon fed propaganda machines that lie their ass off every evening promoting the liberal agenda.

If you can find another source of range liability insurance at reasonable rates, speak up!

I have chosen to not apply for membership at some very good clubs because they require that.

How nice, selling an insurance policy with the contractual obligation for the other party to require everyone they do business with to send money back your way.

When I was a licensed insurance agent, if I had tried any arrangement like that it would have been called a kickback. If you were to guess that it is completely legal until you get caught, you would be correct.

Only requirement here is CFF membership. Gonna stay that way.

Makes me glad my range is in my backyard... I’ve got over $1,000 worth of steel there for popping. :D

Nobody to muzzle sweep me, litter, or tell me I can’t shoot that fast...:p

But yes, I definitely think that we are watching the death rattle of the NRA... sad as they could have been such a force for good during Trump’s term... :(

Aren’t you still on the board? Maybe a better job for you to do.

Maybe after you get that plate rack (“or something like it”) you guys promised last year!

Lolz. Sheesh, just don’t like paying the NRA, don’t need a lecture, but I can always count on you for that anyway. Thanks Jim!

We have looked, but will again given recent events.

Plate racks (hanging, no reset) are in the works. Should be something up for rifle first to test it out.

Please do look some more. I'd rather pay my NRA Annual Dues amount to the club for insurance than to the NRA for their abuse of my money.
I was out there today with my son (he's the reason I joined in 2006 so I could have a place to teach him to shoot) and having a good time. It's a great club and a great range.

Sure. Thanks.

Sure. Thanks.

And the “lecture” wasn’t for you, it was to let other people who may not already know why some clubs have the NRA membership requirement.

That whole NRA affiliation for the purposes of insurance thing is tough. I’m a board member at another range and we have not found any alternatives yet either.

Heck it was hard to even find a bank that would accept our business.

Obama screwed us royally with Operation Choke Point. It’s just about become an industry standard to refuse to do business with anything that involves firearms. Worst part is that Trump hasn’t really made any effort to reverse it.

As y’all already know, the underwriters assess risk based on all sorts of factors. It is tough for a range to get insurance for themselves as a stand alone organization. This is why being affiliated with some sort of association is attractive. It allows the insurer to offer lower rates because (ostensibly) the risk is spread out across many different entities/ranges/clubs etc.

I aim to figure something out but I’m so new in my role it is about all I can do to get the membership renewals processed.
