Hickock45 Ends Sponsorship from NRA

I don't get it. I'm aware of the NRA troubles so I know why, but their statement makes zero sense to me.

There is a group of youtube gun guys who have been very vocal/critical of the NRA. One of them in particular (yankee marshal) has been calling out Hickok for being a paid NRA shill and doing nothing for the second amendment despite being one of the largest youtube gun channels. My guess is all of the attention and pressure caused this move.

Yup...there is some bull that was going to be passed so Yankee got up in arms raising money and trying to get support. Started hissy fitting about gun channels that wouldn’t send money and support them. I generally like the Yankee Marshall but found this recent hissy fit irritating. It’s one thing to be passionate about something, but to demand others have to reach the same level of yeetness or they are buggers is just wrong.

That, and he called out DemoRanch, and Matt’s my homeboy.

Another damn boring Hickock45 video of the same place, same boring talk. Ten minutes of puke that could have been said in 30 seconds. And yet he protected himself and road the fence just in case the NRA comes clean.

Do you all think we need a fixed NRA or would we be better off with all of that money going to a BIGGER Gun Owners of America?

Personally I would like to see the NRA get their stuff together and finally start actually fighting for the 2A. The NRA, as much as they irritate me, take most of the anti-gunners angst. Many antis or non-gun people I know are very aware of the NRA, and have no idea what GOA is. Which I think is good. Lets them get work done while the NRA takes all the heat.

I believe we need a fixed NRA. They have a long history and are very large with involvement in a lot of places, including politically. It would take a long time and a lot of money build an organization with as much influence. With that said, I don't know if it CAN be fixed. Has the cancer spread too far? I would have to see a detailed plan on how to fix it, which would first need a detailed accounting (pun intended) of what's wrong. Which would require someone new at the helm.
Personally, I'd love to have Ollie North come forward and tell us his story on this. The members need to know. For the good of the NRA, whether they are right or wrong, Wayne and the board need to step down and let a new crew take over to settle things and move forward at this critical time. It's the honorable thing to do. That they are not stepping aside leads me to believe there may be culpatility. Just sayin

Was he sponsored by NRA (ie: receiving money/product from them), or was he just endorsing them?

He always mentioned his three primary sponsors (Bud's, Federal & NRA) at the beginning of each video. He urged viewers to "Join the NRA, at a discount, by clicking the link". So, he was likely receiving some kind of compensation.

Ok, thanks Jep, didnt watch his videos, so I didnt know that.

I've tried watching his stuff but can't. He's a major fudd when it comes to the 2A.

Crowder did a parody video of him that was pretty funny......

I have heard YankeeMarshall say this, but I have not seen anything personally from Hickock45. If you have sources, I would appreciate seeing them. Don't want to promote somebody working against the 2A. Thanks.

Skip to about 3:30. He made this video after a post he made on the book of faces about bumpstocks ticked a bunch of people off.

I don't have anything against him, I just can't stand how he drags on and on in his videos.

The text under the announcement video had this wording : "...we've come to the tough decision that we can no longer take support from the NRA or continue to use our brand to ask people to join."

Yep, to me that means that they were probably getting money from the NRA in exchange for pimping memberships- click-through affiliate compensation or something like that. Seems like everyone on Utube these days has a Patreon account, Go Fund Me, Amazon links, etc.

Makes me wonder what else will tumble out once the NRA finances hit daylight.

He is a first rate A$$hole. Have you ever interacted with him directly? He is a jerk. Back in the day when he was on The Firing Line, before he was banned, he was a major PIA. IIRC his handle was PlayboyPenguin. I had a few interactions with him and he got super confrontational to the point of threating violence if we ever met in person which was basically impossible. I believe it was crap like that which got him thrown off most of the boards he posted on. If you watch his actually reviews these days he is shilling for vendors to clicks, money and fame. His actually firearm knowledge is weak.

As for Hickock45 I can see wanting to separate yourself from the current money trail that the NRA has laid out. From all reports the board has been doing a ton of self dealing. They have used their positions on the board to benefit their own personal interests at the expense of the membership. I would not want to be associated with the business side of the NRA right now. YMMV

I watch all of his vids on all of his channels. I hate your view of him is so negative. But as far as firearm knowledge, he has never attempted to paint himself as a firearms expert. He shoots stuff and films it it a comical way.

As an aside; I looked up PlayboyPenguin on the High Road and his bio says he is from Oregon. Matt is from Texas. Not saying your history with him is wrong, but confirming the name is off.

100% sure he is the same guy. His name is real name is David Atkinson. He lives in in WA. His gun forum handle is Playboy Penguin. Back in the day he would get into it with people all the time. If you did not agree he would take it to PMs where he would be overly aggressive. I think it is absolutely insane to threaten violence against someone who doesn't agree with your take on a firearms topic. He started Yankee Marshal after he had been kicked out of or run off most of the forums. IIRC Google him and you will see the history trail.

Description;

This channel deals with firearms, self defense, prepping, etc. This is a channel is about enjoying hobbies, mutual interests, and not taking yourself too seriously. So sit back and have fun. You might even learn something. David Atkinson The Yankee Marshal

Yeah YankeeMarshall is def an ass. I’ve seen some of his conversations with people on instagram. I think he gets off on conflict.

Are you talking about the guy from Demo Ranch? Doesn't seem to be a confrontational type guy.

Ahh, dude, we are talking about two different people. The Yankee Marshall may well be PlayboyPenguin. No doubt. I thought you were talking about Matt Carriker of Demolition Ranch.

Different guy. I was talking about Yankee Marshal who you mentioned in the post I quoted. I have no opinion on Matt of Demo Ranch.

I'm not sure that GOA has the organization skills of the NRA. Think about all of the marksmanship programs, certifications, and educational materials that the NRA supports. If you don't shoot a target with the NRA logo on it then it doesn't qualify for many competitions (High Power, for example). GOA is a great organization, as is the NRA. Perhaps the NRA should fall back to education and marksmanship and let the GOA take the lead on protecting the 2nd. You really need to have both to be successful.

Except that the board has been self dealing to the benefit of their personal businesses at the expense of marksmanship programs, certifications, and educational materials. The money that they have been paying themselves was not just out of the lobbying $$$.

Yeah I’ve always had a weird perspective on YM, sometimes I really enjoy his videos and perspective, but when he goes off on his political tirades I just really wish he would stay in his lane.

When he called out Demolition Ranch for not jumping on board it irritated me a bit because Matt (demo) runs three YouTube channels, a non-profit Vet service, a branding company, a knife company, and multiple other little things. So he is a bit busy. Or everyone can drop everything and charge to the flag of YM when he snaps his fingers.

Hickock45 is proof even a low budget boring product can make money. The NRA is loooooong from dead. Those old geezers working those gun shows selling memberships continue. People outside of forums like this rarely have a clue what is happening within the group. I proved that by asking two guys with NRA hats about how they felt about the latest news. Neither had a clue. Not even sure they would know who their congressman was. They stare at Fox News all day watching talking heads.

Little by little the NRA wilts but it will be a long process.

I didn't know that the Yankee Marshall was Playboy Penguin! That explains a lot! ;)

Back when the Firingline forum was useful and worth reading i saw a lot of drivel from Playboy Penguin. What a putz! Regards 18DAI

I joined the NRA, not for their marksmanship programs etc., but because they promised they would protect my 2nd Amendment rights. I was young and naive 42 years ago.

NPR had a segment on the NRA yesterday and used a soundbite from Hickok45’s video. However they went about it in a tricky way and instead of referencing his YouTube channel name they used his actual name.

“Hickok45” is way easier to remember and search and they probably didn’t want any of their listeners to watch one of his videos and become interested in something so dangerous as a firearm.

Pretty sure they used a Military Arms Channel soundbite as well (from the recent IV8888 gun gripes vid) as a teaser earlier in the hour but never let people know the source.

NPR used to be the closest thing you could find to a neutral news outlet (anybody remember Bob Edwards and Carl Kasell?). Their content was a little left-leaning back then, but their coverage of the content and current events was pretty well-balanced. I always enjoyed listening to them simply because they weren't yelling.

Now it's the LGBTQ network, with occasional interruptions of the "diversity" message by anti-Trump and anti-gun stuff. The "reporters" simply can't hide their disdain for Trump, you can hear it in their voices. When they interview someone with right-leaning opinions, they will ask a question; then cut the guest off in mid-sentence, finish the sentence for them, and end the interview (Rachel Martin, I'm looking at you).

I can hardly bear to listen to them.

Yeah it’s not easy most of the time. It’s even harder to listen to those that call into the programs.

I really only do it to hear what the other side says and be prepared for conversations with others who disagree or have been misled.
