Ok, this is it.....

It was a model 66 and 69, bought at the same time, both with the same problem.

Actually I take that back, they didn't come back exactly the same, they came back scratched up.

Sold.

You guys have just had some really bad luck with guns, in the years I have been shooting I have had in excess of 150 guns and have never had one that I had to send back. I have had some with problems but I fixed them.

You have been lucky! I've had two guns break in the span of a few weeks! I'm hoping/praying I'm all done with that. I'm fairly sure the G19 isn't going to give me any issues, and I won't be buying another 1911, so maybe I'm good to go? lol.

Heard from FedEx that my gun has made it to the mother ship. lol. (Now fix that thing, send it home, and let's move on!)

Millie, you know I love you. Not to be a naysayer...I don't see this ending well....I sincerely hope I am wrong.
Oh, no! My heart sank when I saw this from you.....I really hope you're wrong too, but all I want is a functioning gun....is that too much to hope for??? LOL. Surely RIA has such a thing, correct? If so, I want them to send it to me so I can get on with my life.....

I've been lucky, I've only had one in 24 years that had to be sent back. It was Kelly's Bersa Thunder 380. Some spring broke under the grip panel, and I didn't even bother trying to fix it, as I wanted her to switch to a Glock, lol. I sent it back, and bought her a G-42, and that's where we still are. The Bersa came back running like a champ, and I sold it to a buddy for his wife. Other than that, I've been a Glock guy since 95, and if something brakes, I ride over to True Value, or Home Depot and buy replacement parts and fix it myself.......ahhaha.

I think you’re going to get a working gun just not the one you sent them.

The main thing now is to get one I can actually shoot for more that 5,000 rounds, and not have to treat it like a delicate flower! I want to shoot a gun, not coddle it......but you're probably right about a new gun showing up.

RIAs are built to meet a price point. Most people are not shooting $900 worth of ammo out of their $450 gun so they don't build them to do so. I would be willing to bet the one you get back if you shoot the same round count through it you will end up with similar results. If it doe simply rinse and repeat. IMHO

This is gospel. I could not have said it better. Low cost=low quality in most cases. But now you have a bunch of guns in the rotation so you will experience a longer life cycle on the Rock Island.

Most people who buy a Rock Island rarely shoot. It’s bought for self defense, not weekend 300 round blasting.

Well, we're gonna find out. I just ordered an RIA FS Ultra in 9mm.

It doesn't matter how much or how little I spend on a 1911. I either break them, wear them out, they won't run right for me, or I find some reason I don't like them. I figured I will try an RIA. I researched this model two years ago and nowhere could I find a harsh word on the intertoob. We will see.

You are so funny, because I was just talking to someone about this very idea..... I'm just going to shoot the gun as I normally do and when it packs up, I'll just send it back---again. Maybe the next time they'll send me a higher-end one, if there is such a thing, so they can quit having to send me guns every few months. lol.

Are you crazy??? LoL.

Seriously, yours should be perfect, because it says "Ultra" in the name! And whatever "FS" means should add a few thousand more rounds of use....you're good to go!

Post pics as soon as it gets there, ok?

Maybe gun companies should hire you as a consultant to break their guns.

That would be a dream job for me!! I could shoot all their guns and see how long it took for them to pack up! I should send out some emails immediately.....

It’s a full size “FS” 1911 with fiber front sight, adjustable rear, ambi safety, G10 grips with thumb notch, mag well. It’s a match ready blaster. If it’ll run. Reviews say it will.

I'll see you at the matches in the fall then, with your 1911!! Just don't let me get my hands on it, or you'll be crying when it breaks! lol.

I break most of mine without any help, lol.

@Millie

I'm picking this up tomorrow. Care to wager how fast I can bend or break it?
I even have an EGW extended mag release sitting here waiting for it. Walter turned me onto those Saturday at the Sanford match.

Let me know how the magazine release works out.

And is the gun new? If so, I give it about 5,000 rounds before it packs up. LOL. Keep us posted. (Though, mine was just the basic model, I think, so yours nay be all fancied up and break-proof.) I can't wait to see it in action at a match this fall, assuming it lasts that long.....kidding!

How was the match, btw?

Sanford match was good. Small turnout, and the weather was surprisingly tolerable. My expectation of this RIA is that it will be a great back up to a Fusion that is my current match blaster, but I fear the mileage may be showing, and it's not more than your RIA, so I need a back up blaster.

I think the only difference between this RIA and yours is bells, whistles, and raccoon tails.

They made it look pretty but the guts are the same. IF it was built properly it will last a good long time. If not the tolerances will get loose and stack to the point of failure. At that point send it in and get a new one. Rinse and repeat. LOL

Well, we can compare guns one day, when my fixed one gets home! I can't wait to get it into a match! (I heard at some point that mine did have some upgrades, but I can't recall what they were. There's nothing on the slide, as far as a "name" goes, like "commander" or whatever they put on them.)

I think this is what happened to mine. Lots of little things piled up. It just seemed to get worse and worse, and then it just died.

I'm expecting a gun to show up at my door any day now. lol. Like you said: use it, break it, send it packing, get another.....lol.

If @fieldgrade is getting his in .45, he will already be way up the ladder of having a working gun than you did with the 9mm.
This is very true, but I thought he and I were discussing 9mm ones? I'm probably getting senile....lol.
And if this new one he's getting IS a .45, we can still compare those, as I plan to do a match with mine, as well. And we'll both be even more assured that our guns will last a few thousand rounds, probably!

And yet you keep getting more....you brave and foolish man! LoL. Who can resist a 1911, though?
Billy is right. I've not had a 1911 in 45 that won't run.
The science just isn't settled on 9mm in that platform. The semi-custom and custom makers can build 9mm 1911's that run, but everyone else seems to be just winging it.

I'm beyond happy to hear about the .45s. I'm hoping my Springfield .45 will be a keeper, and a gun I can shoot a lot with. I've gotten pretty attached to that one in the month or so I've had it!

F433513A-EAEB-43E5-8360-6B7FE1501867.png They make a cheap 9mm 1911 that actually works and holds more boolits.

I am attached to that gun, but I also am attached to the .45....and the G19....and the p238.....and the Rossi.....lol....the Kel Tec, not so much! I'll just be glad to have A 1911 in 9mm back at some point!
What Kel Tec do you have and why didn't it earn your love? They have excellent customer service if it's not working right.
