Shooting primarily steel cased ammo which would have a longer barrel life?

I understand melonited 4150 cmv barrels are supposed to last longer than chrome lined but does the increased wear of steel cased ammo put them behind a chrome lined barrel and bore?

Yes I know where dealing with tens of thousands of rounds but I still would like to know.

Yes but will they wear out a chrome lined as fast as they wear out a melonited.

Depending on where you source your info, one wears faster than the other. Many AK guys will say chrome is better. Many AR guys will say nitrided/melonited barrels are better. I've also read data to support both arguments, but have little anecdotal evidence ... although as an AK guy most of my guns have chrome lined barrels and they all have held up well. The answer is either option is probably relatively close to the other.

If you are shooting steel, put a few dollars aside with each case of ammo you purchase, and by the time you begin to notice accuracy degradation you'll have more than enough money to replace the barrel, due to what you'll have saved over shooting brass ammo.
