We are in the process of some renovations when we discovered something positive.

These stairs had old crappy carpet so this is what they were covering. Why would you cover these up??????

Any idea what type of wood the risers are? The treads appear to be oak.

The floor on the landing is the same floor in the house. It's 3in, 5in, 7 in planks. From my understanding this is old barnwood.

Appears to be oak treads and plywood risers. But thays my opinion and it's not worth much.
I think you're right on the plywood. We wanted oak treads because the carpet was crappy. The quote came back @8k. We opted to put down $900 in carpet since these lead to the downstairs. When they riped the carpet up lo and behold exactly what we wanted was hiding under them. We obviously skipped out on putting carpet down.

TBF .. I'm shocked and disappointed that CFF hadn't already posted this.

I would paint thos plywood risers to match the trim.

We're considering painting the risers but not 100% yet. We are also considering sanding and staining them to match the new stain we are putting down on the floors.

I’d paint the trim to match the risers.

Hand draw the swirls...you can do it!!

Flat sawn red oak treads
Flat sawn red oak flooring. It is not "barn wood". Instead it is new growth lumber. Barn wood is typically old growth. The flooring looks like a commercial v-groove product such as Bruce.
Risers appear to be plywood.

Ditto the advice to paint the risers.
