This one ends well...

This morning I get a frantic call from the wife. She was walking our dog when it got spooked by a truck, panicked, pulled her down, and got loose. The dog bolted and ran cross county through a Charlotte neighborhood, crossing several yards and a couple busy roads along the way. I know this because a CMPD officer saw the whole thing and followed her. I don't know all the details yet but my pup would be lost or dead but for a police officer today, so whoever that was.. THANK YOU!

Generally speaking, all of my interactions with CMPD have been good ones. Even when I was getting a ticket. And I have almost always been armed.

Glad it went well and you got the dog back safely. Now I'll standby for the anti-police rhetoric to start.

I retired from the fire department where I interacted with LEO on a daily basis from several agencies. I am also the stepfather of a LEO. For the big majority of officers they are good people and take their work seriously. Sometimes the younger ones are overzealous for awhile and they learn the trade or get weeded out by their own. LEO for the most part actually like the calls where they help people and are not enforcing the law such as the dog instance. I am assuming it is welcome change of pace for them from all the bad cheap they deal with on a daily basis.

During the time I was in the VFD we would run into all kinds of pets on calls ... from dogs and cats to horses and cows even. On most calls be it fire or medical a couple deputies at least would show up. In all those years I never remember any dogs being shot ... in fact I remember a lot being saved, wrangled or helped by the VFD and those deputies.

Glad you found the dog.

There is one thing from this story that has always bothered me.
I see woman all the time struggling with big dogs. Just yesterday there was a women in Lowes with a 100 plus pound rottweiler, she wasn’t that big. If the dog wanted to leave her side and chew the face off someone buying lawn furniture, he could have with little effort.

Big dogs are strong. Especially when frightened.

Awesome! I haven't had many good experiences with cops but I have seen 2 troopers in 3 days on the side of the highway getting people gas that had broken down. That made me happy to see them helping people in need.

Glad you got your friend back safely. I have frequently said that society benefits from having vetted people that you can go to or call when you need help. That is different than having armed troops going around apprehending people who they think may have committed a “crime” that is such only because some politician said so.

I see it too, but Buttercup is just 35 lbs. I can't explain how she pulled a grown woman off her feet. Freakishly strong pup.
