I have a ruger American predator in 6.5 creedmoor that is my long range rifle. It has a athlon argos 6x24x50, and it sits in a magpul stock. I'm very happy with this rifle. Shoots awesome.

I'm wanting to put together a 223 rifle to shoot cheaper. I would like to setup a identical rifle but the ruger American predator in 223 uses ar mags not the AI mags so the magpul stock will not work.

I have a savage axis in 223 that's factory( I have put a timmy trigger in it tho). I could put it in a Boyd's stock, and put a athlon argos on it. I think that would be my best option for what I have.

What do yal think? Am I making sense? I do have a 22lr trainer too I just want a 223 :)

Do you have funds to do something else other than the Boyd's?

Althought the Ruger American in .223Rem fedd from AR magazines MDT does make a chassis for:

Here is a series of articles specifically about the Ruger American and the author putting it into a MDT chassis:

@Bunsen

I'm not a huge chassis fan. Especially for what they cost. I know I would have to pillar bed the Boyd's stock for the savage but I'm ok with that.

Roger that. I suggested the MDT only because of the way they address the Ruger Predator in .223Rem unique mag system.

I'm not a chassis fan either, but I really love my KRG Bravo and highly recommend it! I feel it is the perfect hybrid of chassis and traditional stock. It would feel very similar to your Magpul stock.

Unfortunately KRG does not offer the Bravo for Savage and their only Savage chassis is too expensive IMO.

Are you going to use the Savage style DBM in the Boyd's stock or convert to AICS pattern?

I did a Savage Hog Hunter build in a Boyds to continue using the Savage / Dark Eagle mags and did another build where I converted to AICS using CDI DBM.

I was very pleased with how both turned out.

If you’re patient and shop around a little, you can likely find a RAR in 223 that doesn’t take the AR mags. The first few years they made them they used the rotary mags.

Well the pro varmint stock and pillar bedding kit have been ordered. The 20 moa rail came today. Next will be to order the match barrel.
