Not even all that long ago, if you had told me that all these gun "bans" and what not were not about crime, but were part of a push to disarm, or effectively disarm the populace by making them hide their "illegal" guns, so that the communists could transform the country, I would have thought you were nuts.

Today, not so much.

Yep, any gun control won’t really stop homicide rates if someone is bent on killing they find some other way ... bat, hammer, vehicle, bare hands, etc. Hell, an AWB or Buy Back won’t really put a dent in gun crimes since criminals do not follow the other laws so why would they follow AWB laws or damn not likely to sell back their working firearm they can get more for from another criminal in a back alley.

It isn't all that difficult to imagine that the type of people who would willingly disarm themselves are probably not the same type of people with a tendency to lean towards violence in the first place.
