The 2nd amendment is a piece of paper, it only works as long as people accept it and respect it. We are losing that respect and acceptance so eventually it will hold no water with most and be dismissed.

Think of it like a restraining order against the government but the government gets to choose whether or not to enforce it.

I didn’t read the article.

I agree that the 2nd Amendment doesn't protect my right to own a firearm. It merely states that the government knows I have in inherent right to self preservation and that self preservation may manifest itself in my desire to defend the union. The bill of rights was written as restrictions on the government, not as a list of things I get to do.

If they were to come out tomorrow and repeal the 2nd, I would still have a natural right to self preservation which manifests itself in me by a primal urge to continue breathing for as long as possible. The degree to which we allow our self preservation to be outsourced to another dictates how much restrictions on defensive tool use you will allow. Some people, historically proven, are willing to allow this outsourcing to carry them right to the side of the mass grave, while others will take up arms far sooner. It is up to each of us to decide where, on the scale of "WOLVERINES!" and "Mass Grave" we want to end up.

I'm sorry to the author, but the only people I am introducing to firearms nowadays are the people that are already in my circle of trust. Putting firearms in the hands of unknown people with radical beliefs and zero concept of what socialism does isn't in my wheelhouse. Sounds like a great way to create more Antifa types.
