I have a Pontiac Solstice that needs repainting on the trunk and hood. I see no point in repainting the entire car if only the horizontal surfaces need it, but I know nothing about painting cars. Can that be easily done and the paint blended to match? Color is dark blue metallic.

This is a daily driver, I'm not a perfectionist and I'm not looking for perfection so I had Macco do an estimate but they work it so that doing a couple of individual panels is more than painting the whole car and the size of the car doesn't even come into it. This is a tiny car with a soft top and not much that would need to be masked. Does anyone know of a local place that would quote me a reasonable price based on just the hood and trunk (assuming that's a viable solution) and/or the effort and paint involved, which would be about half that of an SUV I'm guessing?

What exactly is wrong with the paint?

You can get the paint to match pretty close but for it to be done properly and not be noticeable, it'll more than likely have to be blended into the fenders. Especially if its metallic.

So paint the hood, blend into front fenders, clear the hood and both front fenders. paint the trunk lid, blend into fenders and bumper then clear trunk lid, fenders and bumper.

Small car, I'd just paint the whole thing, doubt the price will be much different.

ETA: Not to be the bearer of bad news but with the way those panels fall, looks like the hood would have to be blended into the fenders, doors, and front bumper. May as well paint the whole thing, going to have to sand it all down to be cleared anyway.

Thanks for the replies. So maybe a piecemeal approach is not the best. The trunk looks like it is horribly scratched but the macco guy said the pain was cracking. The hood is doing the same thing but not as bad, and has several other blemishes.

If the paint is cracking, it'll more than likely need to be stripped as sanding it won't provide a good enough surface for the new paint to adhere to.

If you don't care about the paint matching 100% you can just paint the hood and the trunk lid. It'll just be a shade or two off. Too bad there's no sharp body lines to use for an easy two tone top and bottom.

Just another thought have you checked on price of a hood or trunk lid at couple junk yards? Might be able to find one in same color and just replace it cheaper. Still likely not going to match up paint wise perfectly.
