Between this and their rejection of Slayer's car sponsorship last week, I'm totally done with them. I used to watch most races with my dad as a kid, but I've gradually waned. Now, I wouldn't go if you gave me free tickets to watch a race from Hendrick's private suite.
I'm not even a Slayer fan, but I can acknowledge a cool idea that likely not only resonates with a percentage of NASCAR fans, but would also attract a couple new ones potentially--and to shut them down was stupid.
Now this?!?! Are they seriously drunk???
I have heard from a few folks who were involved in NASCAR's rise to fame and its 80's-90's-00's fortune, and they are greatly disappointed with NASCAR's direction.
It goes back to that thread from yesterday talking about how impressive Chewy.com's customer service is--my reply was sort of "duh, everyone should be doing exemplary customer service as it's the quickest way to success." Along those same lines, "duh, why would you turn your back on the not-so-secret-but-successful formula that got you there in the first place?!?!" Just who exactly are they aiming for? Wealthier people? They're not gonna come to races. Younger, more "acceptable" new fans for fear of the redneck base going away? There are still plenty of rednecks being born and raised--and they all of a sudden are having a pretty big hole torn in their "stuff to spend money on" as they get outcast by the yuppie management of NASCAR.
