I am considering spending some money on firearms and accessories while things are cheap. ARs, AK, standard capacity magazines, and ammunition. I anticipate the prices to go up in the next year or two.

Now if you were buying as a collection you would keep but kind of an investment as in what you would expect to go up in value what would you buy.

Buy cheap AR’s and AK’s. Sandy Hook taught me that a Wasr will sale For about the same as an Arsenal And a Mp sport with sale for almost as much is the Colt. I probably sold about 50 $5 Tapco Mags for 35 to 40 bucks each

Guns prices are at the lowest I’ve seen in 15 years. AR15s and AKs are going to be banned very soon. Prices will rise as usual. As an investment it’s difficult to say but those with high capacities might be more appealing. If harsher gun restrictions come soon I would think the less costly guns now will bring a higher percentage of value.

Mid to top end fully transferable full auto.

Prices have steadily risen since 1986.

An MP5 sold for $2,500 in 1990. Today they are mid to high 30’s.

Don’t buy crap - no M10’s or M11’s, no sten’s.

You should see a good appreciation in your investment.

How hard is it to get a FA. I understand the price point. I just just understand all the red tape

I’m in the boat that AR’s and AK’s will not be banned
It will be a gradual slip into making them difficult to use, sell, or otherwise own. Excessive taxes/insurance requirements, scarce ammo making the price exorbitant, etc. That's what's been happening for the past 20+ years. It'll just go more prevalent and likely stay there (i.e. no roll back of restrictions) these days.

As long as you don’t have a felony background, it’s not hard - just time consuming (about a year per transfer). Since this is an investment related conversation, purchase them via a trust.

Purchasing as an individual got easier a couple of years ago when ATF eliminated the need for CLEO approval (chief law enforcement officer). So the Sheriff’s can no longer prevent transfers just because they have the power to do so.

What @Majicmike said! I learned the hard way (as usual) that in almost every market, it's easier to get a fair price for a (for example) PSA AR than for a pre-ban Colt AR. YMMV.

You missed cheap AK's by a couple years. And really cheap mags.
But ammo is still pretty cheap.

I bought a dpms Oracle a year before sandy hook. $700-$750. I sold it for almost $1300 after sandy hook.

Don’t buy guns with the intent to re-sell them, that’s a no-no.

Also, if any new laws come down the pipe, it’s my thinking that ARs and the like will be grandfathered, but there will be prohibitive restrictions on their transfer or sale to greatly discourage them moving on from their original owners.

If you do want to profit off of any likely panics-to-come, I’d think ammo and mags now would be the best bet to have high re-sale value once things get scarce again. However, I wouldn’t advise stocking up on either as a plan to make money. The stock market or gold is a much better place to park $$$.

Magazines are always an easy thing to dump a bit of money into. They are easy to sell, even if you just need to break even. I have a memory of prior to SH we had a forum member who would sell surplus military mags for around 5-8 per mag depending on the shape they were in. I mean dirt cheap. He sold tons of them. After Sandy Hook, before Ebay banned selling "high cap" magazines, I sold 5 beat up used surplus mags, one I had even spray painted, for $200. They guy, though was glad to have provided a good deal for us, was kicking himself when he considered how many $5 mags he had sold that were now going for $40+. On top of that, one of my ebay buyers even reached out to me to see if I had more. But when I saw how quick and for how much they sold for I decided to sit on my stash.

Not looking to buy and resell just looking to buy while cheap before the rush and would like to buy things that would possibly go up more in value if that makes sense

Nothing but $$.

Exact same process as buying a silencer, or any other NFA firearm. Same paperwork. Just have machingun in box 4b instead of silencer.

NC used to have MG permits, but those have been gone for years.

I think those $40 aero blem lowers are a great investment.

Where do you see them for $40? Aero has them for $50 right now.

I'm all in for a pile of them for $40.

Yesterday/last night they were showing up a further 20% off, $40 each after added to the shopping cart. Free shipping with two or more...so two for $80 delivered. Was a killer deal, that I of course waited to long to take advantage of.

Thanks, I'll keep an eye out for that deal again.

Dealer cost on regular ones is $49.99 plus shipping at some places. For sticking away, I'd rather buy blems and get 5 of them for $200 instead of 4.

agree with spockrock:

i did the ammo/mags "thing" in January 2008 after i went to a gun show and saw what people were buying (and how much money i had to buy with). i bartered, rather than sold most of my .22LR and mags for laptops and other computer
stuff, silver/gold (maybe that is "sold"), and one shotgun. my opinion, if you want to "park" (don't gain or lose) money, silver/gold is best. stocks were good, but we changed to bonds this past January.
