This should start a lively discussion!

Does that mean you can actually go there, shoot through chronos and doppler, and generate data?? lol

You say you don't have the time to put into lab/range work, yet you have time to cast a shadow over the thread... Interesting.

C'mon man...

How about this, focus on the task /a topic and not my actions. Shade.....

This topic takes a google search to find quality information. Personal data is slim and far between, most here have not shot someone. Even if they had, it might or might not add anything to the question at hand.

But, topics like this in this kind of communication medium, is full of myth and hear-say sprinkled with facts. So go get educated on this topic at a library of data, not second hand info. If you are serious about the topic.. shade... Right

No worries John! Not trying to bash ya...
I'm going to look at the library of data you mention in more detail. Its always good to seek additional knowledge.

I'll be at Battery Oaks soon for a 3-4 day range session as well. As a gesture to you, if there is anything you want us to test, I'd be more than willing to test and report results here on CFF. Everybody gains something positive.

John, this is a firearms forum. We talk gun stuff. That includes caliber choice. We all know we can google stuff. But we still discuss. I would actually challenge you to read anything posted here so far and say it is a "Myth". It sounds like you are projecting some past frustration on a topic that currently does not warrant it. On top of that, if you don't have time to actually offer insight into the issue, even if its just throwing out some links, then don't swing in and make snide comments. For someone who fancies himself a teacher and trainer it does little more than make you look like an elitist snob. I know you better than that.

Again...point out any myth or hearsay that has been posted in this thread so far.

So long as the round has enough mass and speed to impart sufficient energy on the target to interrupt the central nervous system -OR- tank blood pressure via the damage caused by the temporary and permanent wound channels of the hit, then it will stop the threat and is a viable self defense round.

Those are the criteria. Most modern self defense rounds meet these criteria, which then lays the burden on the shooter to make hits, and make hits count.

Then you find the round and the weapon combination that you shoot well and interrupts pulmonary or nervous system function, and you train, train, train.

Great post SPM...!

I think we have beaten this dead horse so many times over the past years that there will probably not be a "lively discussion". Unless someone brings up something silly...Like how Whipped Cream is perfectly acceptable on banana pudding.

:eek::eek:

I don't play "calibre wars". When asked this question in my classes, my response: "Which one are you willing to stand in front of?" "Ask the Brady and Reagan families how much damage a .22 can do!"

Yes, ballistics dictate that some pistol rounds have more stopping power than others. That said, with modern defensive ammo, should you be in a situation in which you need to defend yourself or loved one, any will do if you shoot it well.

And there it is in a nut shell. I don't wanna get shot wit nutin.;)

Shooting, and especially defensive shooting will always be more about the Brave than the Arrow.

When the data is all laid out, the bottom line is that pistols generally suck at stopping people. So shoot the one you use the best, and shoot them until they catch on fire or change color.
Mr. Smith says something along those lines.

Anybody notice the gun used by the developer of The Wizard in his video?

There's a video? Please, do tell ...

Whipped cream is perfectly acceptable on many things. lol.
Not sure where you're going with that comment Millie. :p

Other than that, I'm finding this lively conversation somewhat boring. :D

To me at least, it's not boring; but it did kind of blur a bit from it's original focus.

Thats my point sir.

Between weeding through quality posts, and not, just go read the facts. Question answered with no drama.

Which post, specifically, above do you have issue with? Maybe people need “professionals” like you to help guide them to the quality posts.

Yeah, didn't we determine some time ago that all handguns suck and that they're statistically similar in stopping power? Shoot what you like/prefer, just shoot it well.

And just for the record, the topping on banana pudding is irrelevant if the puddings not good. If the pudding is good, I don't care what's on top. :D

Whipped cream or meringue is like putting lemon in tea, it takes away from the flavor of the real stars.
