i know SC gun laws are a little different than NC. Can I CC in SC. If I have my pistol out while driving will I’ll be fine with it anywhere in the car. I know my question may be stupid but just want to be on the safe side.

NC and SC laws are pretty much the same except we don't have open carry. You can put your gun in a glovebox or console legally.

So his gun, sitting on the car seat, in the open, would be forbidden...right?

That is the way I understand it. It is not concealed.

I wouldn't want a visible gun sitting on a car seat if I happened to be stopped by LEO. It could lead to an uncomfortable situation. This part is just my opinion.

And there’s where the two Carolinas diverge. “Up here”, a pistol “in plain view” on a car seat is perfectly kosher (particularly if it was once used by Mossad); at least legally. Let the pistol get covered by your sweater or a Big Mac wrapper and you’ve got Trouble in River City.

I don't do sweaters nor Big Mac's so I should be good.

Yeah, Pie Pie’s Spicy Chikn Sammich wrappers are exempt so you’re safe.

:p

I have to take my gun out of the glove box at the North Carolina line and put it on the seat when I ride in my car to work from SC. With a CCW you can have it on your person concealed or glove box / center console. Unlike North Carolina, you can walk into a gun shop on a whim and buy a pistol and walk out with it minutes later. Truly a wonderful state...except for Lindsey Graham. I want to personally apologize for that sht.

Learned something today - thanks.
I am SC CWP holder and have a concealed gun on my hip and one in the glove box. I drive daily into NC but do not take the gun out of the glove box when I cross the border into NC.
And, yes I agree SC is a wonderful state except for Pansy Graham so I apologize too for that sht.

@12151791 I’m not sure what you learned but your SC permit is good n NC so you’re good to go with a pistol concealed in your vehicle.
But without a permit you would have to do the glove box hokey-pokey to stay legal.

Maybe my misunderstanding but reading what @Goofyfoot2001 wrote I took it that even a SC CWP holder should take the firearm out of the glove box when crossing into NC

That is correct, you can't have it in the glove box in North Carolina. You can stick it in your pants if you like if you have a CWP... (anyway, my understanding of the NC law).

Now even I’m getting confused.

If you have an NCCHP or one recognized by NC, you can conceal a handgun anywhere you like while in NC (including glovebox).

You can keep it in the glove box in NC if you have a CHP. You can also walk into a gun store in NC on a whim and walk out with a pistol, if you have a NC CHP.

I'm certain this is not true. If you have a permit you can keep it in the glove box. One possible reason to advise against this might be related to passengers in your vehicle. If they aren't CHP holders then a gun in the glove box, console, underseat, etc is technically concealed and accessible to them.

No need for a CHP to buy a pistol in SC without a permit from the sheriff. Good to know on the glove box though. We were not taught this in SC about NC. I have never heard any mention of anything to do with passengers. That would be a HUGE grey area for the cops to take advantage. Can we clarify this glove box thing?

Found this and the word LOCKED stood out. No point in putting it in a LOCKED glovebox

-----------------------------

It is unlawful to carry a concealed handgun in a vehicle unless the person has a valid concealed carry permit."

A person who is not a convicted felon may carry a handgun if not concealed.

A handgun is concealed in a vehicle if it cannot be readily seen by a person approaching and if it is readily accessible. A handgun under the front seat or in an unlocked glove box or console is illegal. A handgun openly displayed or in a locked glove box, locked console, or in the trunk is lawful.

Looks like Goofyfoot2001 types faster than I do, but here is the site for the information he gave.

From the NC DPS website
https://www.ncdps.gov/our-organization/law-enforcement/state-highway-patrol/faq/handguns-in-vehicles

Hope this clears things up.

Does not matter if accessible to non-permit holder as long as permit holder is in the car. The problem comes when permit holder leaves the car and non-permit holder is now in possesion of concealed firearm. (i.e. You are NC CCH permit holder and spouse is not. You leave a firearm in the console/glove box while pumping gas, your spouse can now be charged with carrying concealed without permit.)

I'll never forget 19 years ago I bought my first glock, I asked the sheriff what was the lawfull way to transport my weapon... He told me then, to seperate the bullets, put them in a locked container ie. glove box, and keep the firearm in a different locked container. I remember thinking...what's the point of having it for protection in my vehicle. A friend used to carry his all the time in his vehicle, upon a traffic stop, he'd unload, put the bullets in the center console, and place the firearm on a rag he kept on his dash...he never had any problems. That was a different time then in NC, conceal carry wasn't as big a deal as it is now. People should read the NC Constitution, I'm pretty sure I remember reading in it, it prohibits laws making conceal carry legal...but I may be wrong. I'll read it again, just to be sure.

Yep! Here it is...artical 1 section 30 of the NC Constitution
Sec. 30. Militia and the right to bear arms.

A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed; and, as standing armies in time of peace are dangerous to liberty, they shall not be maintained, and the military shall be kept under strict subordination to, and governed by, the civil power. Nothing herein shall justify the practice of carrying concealed weapons, or prevent the General Assembly from enacting penal statutes against that practice.
So how do they justify it??? How, if you carry concealed, justify it??? I'm sure I know the answere of some of you...but I'm just curious. I have so many questions.

The state constitution doesn't provide a blanket authorization to carry concealed; neither does it prevent the passage of laws prohibiting it.

It also does not prevent the passage of laws allowing it.

Not trying to sound like a smart butt, what's the point of a State Constitution then...I'm not getting it, honestly.
