Silly Catholics taking books literally...

Can you prove him wrong? I don't think so...

I’m surprised the Romans jumped on it.
As I recall, the Baptists I was involved with were going bat guano crazy when they came out.

Listening to J Peterson I’ve learned how these stories are built on a classic good/evil meme framework, therefore they connect to almost everyone.
There are many similarities with the The Chronicles of Narnia series.

A Catholic school in Nashville, Tennessee has banned the "Harry Potter" series because a reverend at the school claims the books include both good and evil magic, as well as spells, which, if read by a human can conjure "evil spirits,

How does he know? Has he conjured evil spirits??

And what if they're read by a non-human?

I’ve read all the Harry Potter books. It was a good series but no magic i there.

I’ve also read books that were supposed to contain actual spells just for s&g many many years ago. Tried a few on a whim to see if there was anything to it. Nope.

Magic isn’t real. This has nothing to do with reported magic. It’s an excuse by their clergy to control the reading of their congregation. It’s a fear based response about kids reading anything that contains things that are outside the teaching of the Bible. Mainly the supernatural.

I had a Baptist aunt lose her mind that I was reading the lion the witch and the wardrobe when I was 10. I’ve seen other fervent religions types claim the same thing about other books like the lord of the rings.

In the end the parents have the choice of putting their children in this school or not. So I don’t really care.

Just when you thought you couldn't take Catholics less seriously..

I guess when you take the Bible as word-for-word fact, you'd be a hypocrite not to think about Harry Potter in the same light...

Catholics don't know what's in the Bible, they wouldn't be Catholics if the did...

But yep, they get no seriousness from me!

I believe in the Bible.
I believe in good and evil.
But I'm one of the odd balls that is a realist and believes you should raise your kids to believe and be able to navigate the real world that does not always believe. IMO it's better to teach them how to differentiate between real and make believe as well as what they believe and what conflicts with what they believe. You can know something without it having to effect what you believe.

Indeed.

This goes hand in hand with one of my favorite sayings.

“Bad judgement leads to experience. And experience leads to good judgement.”

And the corollary...

“Some people learn from other people’s mistakes.
Some people learn from their own mistakes.
And some people never learn.”

Point being, if some people never hear it, read it, or experience it, they can never learn it.

Boohoo, a private school made a ruling based on their beliefs. This is a non-story for a slow news day.

Look, I have no love for the Catholic church or what I would consider it's idolatry and superstition, but they should have every right to impose limits like these in their own house.
Don't agree with them? Don't send your kids to school there.

I'd be more worried about what the priests are doing to the little boys than what a kids series about wizards was.

And again the brush used here is overly broad, it’s one catholic priest in a position of authority in one catholic school.

The catholic church has plenty of problems, but we shouldn’t attribute to the entire church the comments of one crackpot priest any more than we should attribute to the entire baptist church/congregation the comments or beliefs of any one crackpot pastor/minister.

Had a family friend who left Catholicism when he was going through a troubled time. He had a Bible in hand and was talking to a priest about struggling to find his answers in the Bible. The priest took the bible from his hands and said, We don't use that anymore. o_O

Where's the fun in that? Next thing you know we can't make priest diddling alter boy jokes...

For Safety Of Students, Catholic School Bans Concealed Carry Of Harry Potter Books
GOODVILLE, TN—In order to protect the students at St. Margaret Catholic School from deadly spells such as Avada Kedavra, Wingardium Leviosa, and Lumos, the school's faculty announced a ban on all concealed carry of Harry Potter books.

What about open carry? And what about wands??? Or are those may issue by permit?

;)

Gotta nip it in the bud with those nasty wizard books.

Kids start reading about wizards, and the next thing you know, the boys will be cutting their hair and the girls will be wearing pants!

Which is absolute malarkey considering the Author is one of the greatest apologists and Christian writers of the past century.

Lol. Yeah I didn’t know that when I was 10 but I found out later and had a good laugh. She always was an idiot but I didn’t know she was that big of an idiot.

"The Lion, the witch, and the wardrobe" is literally a Christian allegory...written intended as such, and in a way for Christian children to receive the gospel in a different way. Arguing against it is like saying "The Passion of the Christ" is of the debil!
