My son’s girlfriend called because “there’s a huge snake in our backyard”. She and her mother live in a nice townhome and they along with most others have little dealings much less knowledge of snakes so I told my kid to tell them to leave it alone and it would move on. He yells back her mother said it’s been there for at least an hour and not leaving. I decide to make my son the hero and we headed in to “save” them.
We get there and I’m expecting a 3-4’ black or rat snake ... oh hell no! There is a freaking 8’ red tail boa sunning at the edge of their deck steps. The snake doesn’t move except its head a little to see what I’m doing. Now truthfully I am not getting to close to this one because the head and mouth on this thing probably could swallow my hand or at least put a hell of a bite on it. It’s not in any hurry to leave but it’s not in an aggressive state either.
I tell my son and his girlfriend to go around and see if any on the neighbors had a pet boa and if so had it escaped. I stayed back to keep an eye on the snake ... make sure he didn’t bother anyone or any pet as well as nobody bother him. Not 5 minutes later here comes a woman (pierced and tattooed enough to work in a sideshow) who picks up “Shelia”, kisses him on the lips (if snakes had lips), drapes him over her shoulders, thanks us and heads back to her townhome. I don’t know what was funnier the look on the girl’s face and her talking to Shelia as they walked off or my son’s girlfriend elbowing him as he watched the girl’s ass hanging out as she walked away. Oh the way home I started his education on how to look with without directly looking and getting caught.
