Dead battery in a Pathfinder. Walmart gives me a 880, 1000 cca. Calls for 360 per their book. Not sure if the 360 was cold crank amps or minimum but I assume being that low it’s a minimum. Not sure how a substantial increase reacts? I’ve not seen anything recommended over 890 cranking amps with most at under 800.

No more DieHards for me Duralast Gold from now on.

Look how long they can maintain the cca is more important than a peak which they commonly publish for marketing purposes. Really if your not using alot of electronics or have something drawing high current its not gonna matter a whole lot as long as its a good brand or line of battery.

FWIW...

Interstate Batteries. $25. That’s all I’ve run in any vehicle for many years. They’re the ones they take to the dealership and a label gets slapped on it, then they get returned for numerous reasons. Every one I’ve had has been <6 months old, fully tested before sold. Had several friends buy them as well.

360 seems really low.

A gasoline engine battery (passenger vehicle) will usually be around 650-750 amps. 360 would probably be the minimum amount to crank the engine once......if it doesnt fire the first time, the battery may not have enough power for a second try.

The owners manual would tell you what size battery you need.

I bought Duralast Gold for years, but 3-4 years ago Autozone changed their battery design and reduced their warranty. Around this time I needed to buy two new batteries for my F450 and picked up an old stock, and a new stock at Autozone. The old stock was noticeably heavier than the new one (indicating thicker lead plates).

Instead of buying that pair from Autozone I switched over to Panasonic at Batteries Plus and haven’t looked back. Batteries Plus was offering the same warranty that Autozone used to.

We have a LOT of batteries here on the farm. Something in the neighborhood of 40 -45 as I recall. The big AGM’s used to power the inverters in the mobile veterinary hospitals cost close to 1K each.

An extra year or two of longevity really makes a difference.

SCSmith42, I'd like to know more about your Farm!
It’s the most interesting place in the world.

If you like giant trees, giant saws, giant trucks, giant cranes, homemade full length airstrips, wild horses, gun ranges, railroads, machine shops, welding, nuclear power plants, tobacco barns, smart people, Harley Davidsons...

What’d I forget?

My FIL works there, and I call him and he brings one home when I need it. But he says it’s not an employee deal...anybody can get one.

You left off automatic weapons..... (and I noticed that you didn’t say anything about handsome owners. LOL)

I was afraid to post about the pieces and parts to Thompsons I saw laying around, and I’m not calling any man “handsome” with a fully automatic weapon in his hands.

:D

Ah, ok, I'll give em a call next week
Let me know if it doesn’t work out, and I’ll call him and see if there’s some secret handshake or code word you need. :D

How does one arrange a visit?
I invited myself, as it were, if you call taking your son to work at Scott's an invite that morning because son’s vehicle had a dead battery. :)

Nice seque into the thread title, no?

It is indeed a facinating menagerie of man things on that farm.
