The wife and I went to Shatley Springs for dinner (lunch to some of you) and I spotted a young man open carrying. He was carrying a black SCCY in a nylon Uncle Mike’s type holster. I think that I was the only one that actually noticed it. He needs an orange one like mine so more people will notice.

I had a nice chat with a young kid behind me in line at Sam’s Club. He was open carrying some kinda Taurus. I’m now wondering whether the new WM policy will be extended to Sam’s.

Young lady at my p/t job at home depot carried an H&K. :)
Another guy had the Glock 19 owb and a S&W.357 ankle holstered.:):)
Another guy had his retention holster unsnapped, let him know about it,
he kept playing with it, I think he was a bail agent, had a badge on the shirt but no writing.

I also take notice, we have our situational awareness.

Apparently everyone who has replied so far has never been to Shatley Springs for a meal or they would be asking about the food instead of talkin' gun stuff.

( So how was the food? Really no need to answer, I'm sure it was very good )

The food hasn’t changed since the 1970’s when I first started going there. It is still wonderful.

I’ll be by there in a couple weeks when I go up that way to trout fish. We stay in the cabin in back.

Seeing more of it around Hickory lately. Went out last week and saw 3 that trip at different stores.

Saw 2 this weekend both opens:
1) tan stipple Glock something in a kydex holster

2) bonehead: was a XD in Some type of nylon holster, but the messed up part was the guy had his son on his shoulders, so this made the carry a waste

A couple weeks ago I was sitting in my car waiting for my wife to come out of the Barnes & Noble in Huntersville. There was a guy standing in front talking to a couple of people. On his left side he had a double magazine holder with his tee shirt tucked behind it into his pants. The tee shirt was down on the right side so you couldn't see what he was carrying. So I guess I saw a half of an open carry. I couldn't figure out was he was trying to do because it didn't look like the shirt had ridden up because it was tucked into his pants. o_O

I see a surprising (for the area) number of people OC’ing in concord mills and Huntersville areas. Most people are completely oblivious. As @bigfelipe said, it’s usually a cheaper pistol and nylon holster.

OC'ing kinda goes against the grey man train of thought, doesn't it?
not everyone lives in a place where they need to be the grey man. Like I have mentioned several times, the Chief of our town police encourages everyone that can legally carry a firearm to do so.

If you want to have a quickdraw contest, I know some people that you probably wouldn't want to try to draw from concealment on.

I'm not a fan of OC'ing, simply because I don't want anyone to know I've got it on me. In my mind it makes you the first target if someone wants to do wrong. I'd rather be the last one they'd expect so I have as much time as possible when just seconds count.

Also, in my experience, whenever I see someone OC'ing they're usually doing something stupid. I've seen holsters clipped to the outside of their pocket so the gun was just swinging around. I've even seen someone with the gun in the holster upside-down, so the muzzle was pointed straight into their ribs (not sure how someone would think that was the way it was supposed to be).

Saw one today at my car dealership,, small guy, plastic gun and a what looked liked a brand new Uncle Mikes fabric holster. Saw another couple of guys that were together just last week, that just looked odd. They were carrying matching big knives, one was strapped on their right thigh and another to their left ankle. They were from Ohio, well at least their car was.. Maybe that's a look or a thing in Ohio ?

There are good reasons to OC. I think simply exposing the masses to a normal respectable looking person carrying a weapon is a very good thing. I rarely do it, and when I do it's usually IWB so it's really only half OC. Yes it could make you a 1st target, it could also make a BG pick another store. Man up occasionally and take one for the team. When we always hide what we do we reinforce the idea that what is common is actually only done by fringe kooks and can/should be banned without affecting normal people. No Uncle Mike's here. :)

That's a fair point. I also live in SC where OC'ing is illegal, so no issue here. But at work in Charlotte a few guys OC around the office, sometimes we even camp out on top of the building with AR's and take out some of the coyote population we have on the property for lunch breaks.

I wish our "pukes" would pass it for us. They bring it up Every year to pacify us and then let it run outta time. PUKES!

I really think we need to make open carry normal. Me having to go out into a large public gathering, I would much rather have my AR then a pistol, when things to wrong.

I see a lot of people open carry in this part of the state, this is a vacation destination with both locals and come-here-people. I think the younger looking locals feel cool hanging a big bad one on their belt. The older guys seem to be serious gunners packing small good looking rigs. I saw a guy last week who was appendix carrying with his tee shirt behind the gun, I guess it was hanging outside the belt. The strange thing, there was a clip showing on the outside of the holster. Must have a clip on both sides of the holster, ouch!
