Every day, it seems like, there are more and more random(?) shots in the area in and around our apartment complex. We honestly don't live too far from a not so great area of Winston, but there's also more riff-raff moving down towards us and in our complex. It's got me living on edge again and I don't like it. Yes we have plenty of Arms and Ammo to protect ourselves and there are others around us that do as well but it is still unnerving. I miss living in the country where we didn't have to deal with this garbage and the garbage people that live in the city (no offense to the good law abiding citizens in the city.) Last night I told @karalynnlippy that when our lease is up we're moving back down to the country where I can relax and not have to worry so much about having to kill or be killed all day (f-ing military.) This week there's been at least 4, i don't know what to call them, firearm discharges? in our apartment complex alone. I'm just sick of this b/s.

I am sorry to hear that, and can completely relate as someone living in town in Durham. I have lived in neighborhoods like yours and luckily am in a better spot now, but the garbage is never far away and can drive through at any time.

I am also looking for land in the country.

well we're stuck here until may next year unfortunately, we want to go back to davidson county or somewhere near there

The garbage people always infect the areas around them, the rot spreads and a new neighbouring area gets the chop. I watched it crawl up US1 in Raleigh during the time I lived there.

If you enjoy the area in general I recommend Lewisville, it’s right outside Winston, small town with good schools. Quiet.

I'll second that @B00ger -gram. We lived in Lewisville for 17 years. For the most part, it was one of the better places I've lived. (Coulda' used more land and less 'neighborhood', but ... well, Mama ...)

Until you can move just keep bugging the police. You might have to get creative, for example my brother in Los Angeles reports the homeless box camps that pop up on his street from time to time as potential toxic waste spills. Says it gets a response.

the fools are everywhere, I was noticing bullet holes in the street signs while riding around weddington..

Wait a minute, around here we get a warm feeling when we see shot up road signs, ...Bubba the Horrible and friends live nearby.

Move a bit further out into Yadkin County, imo. Far less stressful-

Still an easy drive to the decent part of Winston.

Come on back to DC brother
We'd love to, we know a bunch of the sheriff's deputies pretty well from DC, they're good dudes. The new Sheriff is doing good things there now. We just moved here because we had to at the time. Trust me, neither me nor @karalynnlippy willingly wanted to move to Forsyth county.

Your home is suppose to be your refuge. If it's Not, it will reflect in everything you do. Do the hard thing Today and rest easy from then on. If moving really pinches you, in a few weeks of solitude you won't even know it.
You gonna loan me $12k to move out? :D Lol! We'd have to pay for every month we break the lease for, plus the new place to move into.

Come on over to Stokesdale. It’s quiet here except for the occasional loud pipes or range time at someone’s house.
If it's range time I'd want to be invited lol honestly I'm not sure where we'll end up next, it depends on what's for rent and where.

I have no faith in the Winston police to do anything. If I could move tomorrow I would, but we're only 4 months into our lease, 8 more to go.

I read Tim's suggestion as using the police to document the problem so you can attack the lease to get out of it. They don't need to do anything. They are just the means to be sure the shots are documented. Good luck. I hear shots around here, but it's target shooting mostly. But we had a drive by a while back and it's certainly something that will shake you up.

The other problem is the people shooting NOT in our complex, there's not really anything I can do about that.

Repeat after me.

My family and I feel very unsafe in your complex. Since you cannot ensure our safety I would prefer to find another place to live. Then hand them the list of reports. Might work, might not. If you have the time it might be worth a shot. If you don't, hunker down and wait it out.

We're going to start documenting, we already have a bunch from the surrounding area

If you break the lease.....are you just out of one months rent or is it worse?

Cool. Let’s make a smittys seafood date and bring the wives.
That’s the place you mentioned during the show, when I was remember Green’s Supper Club. I’d like to try it. :)

A little late now but do yourself a favor and spend some time in the next neighborhood you are thinking about renting in. We just moved and we spent all kinds of time in the neighborhood we were interested in, days, nights, weekends, holidays, all times of the day. When we moved in and went to the first event many of the neighbors thought we already had been living there since they had seen so much of us.

I live out in the sticks. Worked for FoCo EMS for 12 years, did work with the PD there. Some places are pretty awful to live near, and the apt complexes are definitely poop holes. But, like they said above....spend time in the neighborhood you are looking at.

I grew up on this farm , and the families that were here when I grew up, have now had kids and grandkids.... These really nice houses that pensions kept up, cant be kept up by these kids who dont want to work, and they have turds for freinds , in and out all hours of the night. There are a few meth heads driving around. Its not the Surry County I knew 20 years ago. But, they know I have a huge German Shepherd, and if I catch them "in the fence" its a bad day. They used to blow a stop sign here in front of the house. I just walked out of my driveway across the street in front of him one day....tied the car up in the middle of the road when he finally turned around and saw me, as he was looking the other way to blow the stop sign. I told him under no uncertain terms if he hit me I would kill him. :) Solved that issue pretty quick. My elderly mom lives across the street ( their neighbor) and she drives her golf cart over to the farm occasionally. and there are kids and dogs out and about too. World's a changing no matter where you are, unfortunately.

Tonight, we were over at a friend's house in the next county over, but only a couple of miles down the road. Somehow the discussion went to zoning and restrictions. Then the husband said, "But, you guys live over in Cherokee County. You can do whatever the hell you want!" It made me smile. ;)

I live out in the sticks and there are lowlifes everywhere. My nearest neighbor is a mile away. I have two mouthy dogs and alarms in the yard. And over the years I have had several confrontations with weirdos and crackheads. I haven't a clue as to where they came from? You look up and there is one standing in your driveway checking you out. Drive through rural NC and look hard enough and you will see them either walking the secondary roads (bums looking to steal something or worse), parked at intersections in the middle of nowhere doing "nothing"???, or blatantly hanging out at the local convenience mart selling their wares. Law enforcement by and large is reactive, not proactive. You are on your own regardless of where you live. There are no safe places anymore.
