This morning I drug the idpa bag off the top shelf in the gunsafe where it had set unused for the last three years
Due to my health issues and my dad's death I'd just found a excuse not to go.
When I opened the bag it was just like I left it,4 mag's still fully loaded from the last time I shot idpa , a rock island commander in a silicone sock in the bag.
I thought well I'm going to have to clean that, and change out the ammo, but then I thought with all the 1911 is unreliable threads that I've read on here of late I'm going to run it dirty .
I disassembled it, put three drops of oil, one on each rail and one drop on the face of the slide, but it back together and off I went.
Ran 120 rounds today , No Malfunctions, gun was 100 percent reliable, mag's had set fully compressed for three years, and the 1911 wasn't dripping wet it had three
drops of oil on it ,
So maybe I bought the last reliable 1911, maybe I just got lucky,
But I've never doubted any 1911 I've owned

Shot the rear sight of my STI loose, so the 1911 world is in balance.

S4F,, glad to see back into the 1911 club. I did the same with my 1911. But it was about 10 years and I didn't bother to clean or oil it. Emptied the mags, the gun ran true. Still using those same mags today 10 years later, say what you want about a 1911 but mine still keep ticking..

Mine is going to back to being a safe queen. I bought back it 1982 and its been altered every way you can and chromed ,close to a half mil rounds thru it and retired. Its been replaced with new 1911 in 9mm and Im a one pistol gun sort of guy. Im 62 years old now, figure I have 10 years left and will leave the old 45 1911 for my wife to sell when Im gone along with many other firearms.

If the 2nd sentence is true...the 1st is not. :p

I did add three drops of oil , if thats wat you're referring two but was careful not to wipe away any powder residue or grime.when I stated as is i meant dirty.

Yeah...I was just picking. “As is” means “as is”, not “as is but I disassembled it and added three drops of oil”. :D

I edited the post to make it clear I meant dirty,

Some years ago, about this time in 1991, I had occasion to examine a commercial Colt Government Model that had been stored in an attic in a hatbox, wrapped in a diaper since the death of its owner. The gun was in Condition One with six rounds in the magazine. The ammunition was Remington UMC ball.

I cleared the chamber and gave it a cursory once-over...rechambered the round...stepped outside...and fired it to slidelock.

The kicker is that the owner was a town constable and part time railroad detective who had died in his sleep of a heart attack in 1929.
