My long wait is finally over. Scored a Colombian fn49 chambered in 30-06. All numbers match except the stock. No import markings and I even had to clean the Cosmo out of the thing. Serial number is under 100 too.

Best part is that it fits the bayonet I Squirreled away years ago just fine

Mine is an evil laugh20190904_160725.jpg

That is a tough one to find. What kind of buttplate does it have? Should be the corrugated steel, but a lot of Colombians found their way into replacement stocks.

It is corrugated steel. Stock is in the 500 range serial number wise, so possible for it to be the same contract, but I don't see any other stamping to tell for sure. Or even know if there are supposed to be some there.

Rumor has it there are only 1000 of these made for this contract. That sound right to you cubrock?

Yep. 1,000ish is what the references say.

Mine has an unnumbered stock with the black recoil pad that the Colombians put on some of them.

COngrats. I've always wanted one, and the one you have is a beauty. Good job!

Very nice. Used to own a Vennie FN49 in 7x57. When shooting from the bench after function testing loads, I would rotate the gas block to "G" for rifle grenades. This would turn off the gas making the gun a straight pull bolt action. Thus saving me hunting down 7mm brass being flung about :)

I've owned 5 FN49s over the years: 1 Belgian .30, another Belgian .30 converted to use BAR magazines, 2 Egyptian contract 8mm and an Argentine 7.62 conversion. I finally sold off my last 49s when it appeared that repair parts were becoming scarce to non existent and I own rifles to shoot them. I didn't want a key part to fail and put the rifle out of service. I always wanted a 7mm FN49 but never had the chance.
