States have been doing this for decades. It is a common practice and from what I read , it has been done every time (with an exception of Gerald Ford) for many decades. The media is just trying to make it look like he is a grueling dictator. From my understanding the GOP does this when the other candidates cannot get 5% of the vote.

The above remark should not be taken as a slap at any member, especially the OP of the thread, since I have met him and he is frankly way smarter than I am.
Smarter, I’m not so sure.
Did you mean Rand instead of Ron?
I’d vote for Rand quick fast an in a hurry, I almost wrote him in during the last election.
The only difference I see between R & D is the D’s will get is to communism faster.

It's not a spectrum of

Liberal Democrat..............Libertarian.............. Conservative Republican

Reality is that scale but folded in half:

Democrat/Republican Authoritartian.......................................Libertarian

So, which Democrat or Republican should we vote for?
Neither. And, you won't ever get a strong Libertarian candidate to vote for either. The R's and D's will make sure of that. It was disheartening to me once I realized the system is rigged, but I will continue to fight anyway.

At least the GOP did not fund a dozen dossiers this year.

True that. I'm certainly a conservative and will side with R's far more often than D's. I just found that I agree with with the Libertarian Party far more often than either of the other two major parties.

the Libertarian Party needs to focus on state level elections (including US house and senate) with good people on that level and get them elected until they have a good base then worry about the president. Don't let clowns like Sean Haugh even think about running for anything as long as they have candidates like him they are a bad joke

Would be cool if we actually had more than 2 options. Red or Blue. Left or right. There’s a whole empty space in the middle we don’t even get to vote on.

This ^

I've said that if the LP would focus the entire national effort on a couple of states each cycle, they could start to make an impact. But it's worse than herding cats to get them to do anything as a group.

I was really hoping to vote for Austin Petersen in the last election.
I had held my nose to vote since ‘88, McCain was the last time. Trump damn sure won’t get my vote this time either.

Mark Sanford’s thrown his hat in, will SC now have a primary vote? And who would be the First Lady?

Washington (AFP) - Former Republican governor Mark Sanford announced Sunday he is entering the race for his party's presidential nomination, in a long-shot challenge to President Donald Trump.

Sanford, who would be the third Republican to mount a primary bid against Trump, said he had decided to run because of the "astounding" debt and deficits piled up during his presidency.

"I think as a Republican party we have lost our way," he said in an interview with "Fox News Sunday."
“The president has called himself the king of debt, has a familiarity and comfort level with debt that I think ultimately is leading us in the wrong direction."

Sanford's decision comes amid reports that Republican officials in some states, including his home state of South Carolina as well as Nevada and Arizona, are considering canceling their 2020 primaries.

Asked whether he really thought he could defeat Trump, Sanford replied: "I'm saying, you never know."

"I'm listing my goals, my primary goals to say let's go out and force, or try and create a conversation on that which is not being talked about in this presidential cycle," he said.

"The thing that has been lacking in this debate has been an earnest and real conversation on debt and deficits in government spending."

Sanford was governor of South Carolina from 2003 to 2011, and served two separate stints in the House of Representatives, but lost a party primary in 2018.

Also running against Trump for the Republican nomination are Joe Walsh, a former Tea Party firebrand who served a single term in Congress, and William Weld, a former Massachusetts governor.

Yeah, sure, vote for me even though I lied and probably spent tax $ illegally.

Oh, wait... That seems to be what most politicians have said at one time...

Appalachian Trail Sanford.

I’ve given him a ride once, across campus, after a Clemson football game just before I joined the Army. This was when he was a brand new governor and waaaaay before the “hiking” incident

SC should cancel all primaries permanently until only voters that affiliate with that party have a voice in who the nominee is. That's how we keep getting floaters like Grahamnesty that just won't flush down. Then there are a ton more at the state, county and local level just like him.

Republican party lost its way a long time ago, when the politicians got more interested in staying in office than serving their constituents.
