What are you reading?

I've started that series. I don't like that the guy becomes so powerful that nothing is a challenge for him.

It switches between the other main characters after the first couple of novels, but they're all pretty over powered. That sort of thing doesn't bother me as long as the story is entertaining . I also read LITRPG and wuxia novels, and they're far worse about over powered characters.

This is my first zombie fiction series. I normally don’t read horror books. But gotta say I’m enjoying it a lot. 2 books in to the series.

Finished a few weeks ago, really enjoyed:

One Man's Wilderness by Sam Keith from the journals & photos of Richard Proenneke.

For those unfamiliar with the true story: Proenneke built himself a cabin by hand in Alaska in 1968 & lived in it for 16 months. The book reads like a diary & has some excellent photographs.

One of my favorite passages, from near the end:

"I have no doubt that to others I am an oddball in many ways. The Lord waited a little too long to put me on one of His worlds. I don't like the look of progress, if that is what it's called. I would have liked the beginnings better."

Just finished Stephen Hunter’s latest, “Game of Snipers”.

David Baldacci - Simple Truth

To answer the thread question:
"Chaos" by James Gleick (history of the emergence of Chaos theory through the 20th century)
and
"Krondor: Tear of the Gods" by Raymond Feist (straight sword & sorcery high fantasy)

If you like Urban Fantasy, may I suggest Charles deLint and Simon Green? the Nightside and Secret Histories by Green are rather fun.
I'll check out the DeLint. Simon Green annoys me with his prose. If you took a drink every time he said "on the Nightside" you'd be dead now.

Fair'nuff on Green, if he's not to your taste. deLint is quite a different flavor, pretty heavy Celtic/Gaelic influence. He does a good bit of straight fantasy too, with the same general leanings.

Dune?

The Crusader Armies, by Steven Tibble. I can't decide yet if I agree or disagree with his premise, i.e. that the Crusades were not about religion as much as due to "mass migration" from the Eurasian steppes due to "climate change". Using those two loaded phrases in the same premise just makes me very wary of agenda.

The Border by Don Winslow. Good drug crime stuff.

Say Nothing by Patrick Radden Keefe. It’s about Northern Ireland in the late 60’s and 70’s. A history book with a little murder mystery in it.

Yep, Borderlands 3 has some Dune fans.

Not a big fiction guy, but I'm re-reading all of my Martin Cruz Smith books in the Arkady Renko series .
Between Smith and Craig Johnson ( Longmire books), that's about all the fiction I ever read or like.

I read every morning for 45 minutes or so. My current book is Ernest Hemingway's For Whom The Bell Tolls, set during the Spanish civil war.
Next up is Grisham's latest, The Guardians.
I read everything from Homer's Odyssey to Twain, Dickens, Crichton, Clancy, and Orwell. Not to mention all the non-fiction.

The one book I recommend to every father is The Old Man And The Boy by Robert Ruark, it's a MUST read!

This dude is an awesome writer! I am reading the last MM book he just released. Great series. All his stuff is cool. The Gladiator series,131 Days, he has is great. Just fun, smart reads. He manages to be fresh even with well worn genre like zombies and gladiators.

Anyone who wants a relatively short, interesting action yarn, check out The Bear That Fell From the Stars. 3$ on amazon kindle.
About a ninja who gets abducted by aliens...lol. So great. Trollhunter is also very good.

Sittin at Clt airport headed to Orlando, and there are no good titles at the little bookstore.
And then, bam...tucked away in the corner is this.
We're gonna see if it's any good lol

Ha. I’m sitting in Orlando waiting to fly back to Charlotte.

But I brought Last Man Standing by Baldacci with me. :p

“Past Tense”, by Lee Child. On vacation until the 30th and just started this yesterday. About 180 pages in, and I really like Child’s style. Who doesn’t like Jack Reacher? NOT the horrible Hollywood Tom Cruise Jack Reacher, but the guy described in the books.

I enjoyed this one. Felt more like classic Child than his last several offerings.

I just finished Unintended Consequences.
All of you need to read this.

About to start this one:

Admittedly I haven’t read a majority of those authors. So, it may be a great source of future books for me. There’s a second one as well...which is how I found this one. I’ll read it next, but it has a Kathy Reichs & Lee Child combo. Two of my absolute faves.

Reading "the dark secrets of SHTF survival " by Selco Begovic.
had followed him years ago, he has very good insights and experiences in the real shitstorm of the Balkans. not a story but purposed reading
