A Texas fisherman on Saturday reeled in a semi-automatic rifle while fishing on a lake, reports said.
The fisherman called the police and alerted them about the unusual catch.
Authorities met the fisherman on Lake Arlington—which is about 13 miles from Fort Worth--and took possession of the rifle, Fox 4 reported. The firearm is currently being held in a “property room,” according to the report.

There they go again... "took possession of the rifle."
He found it, and it belonged to him, as long as it's serial number doesn't show up as stolen or lost.

That room ain't a "Property Room"... it's a "Took Property Room."

He called the cops. He didn't want it. I'm not sure I would either, but for me? back in the lake it goes...

I probably would have called the cops as well. I don't need another AR bad enough to stand in the way of a possible murder investigation. Same as if I'd found a bag of diamonds or DB Cooper's parachute.

BS, we all know he had no parachute!

I knows a fella that found M16/AR15 in the river bank. It's definitely non-functional, considering it's almost rusted in two.

He didn't call the cops.

I was thinking of this scenario when I was typing up my post about the river find.

I would like to think that if it was used in a crime, finding it would help solve it.

I have on my front porch railing at the Gun Room a 50 Browning Machine Gun. It was dug up by some metal detecting folks and they thought Here was where it needed to be. It sits there with a round In the chamber. It is much pitiful looking but we all love it.

Nope they didn't call a soul. Just fetched it to me. It was found about a foot deep in the Earth off Bombing Range Road. Yes, it was named that for a reason. This gun is from before 1950. Be sure to check it out when you're this way.

Anyone ever done any magnet fishing? I have the magnets but not the boat.
Haven't been able to find anything in local ponds but the odd plow point or tool, but I bet the 77 bridge over Lake Norman or the I-40 bridge over the Catawba would be excellent places to search for sunken treasure.

I got a call from a friend that he dropped his Ruger LCP in the river during the hurricane. For 2 days they were out there with a big magnet and they found it. Being in salt water I told him take it completely apart, then flush it with warm soapy water, put it in some diesel oil for a day. Spray it with WD40 and use a good oil when he put it back together. I would have to have a year and many rounds through it before I would bet my life on it.

Not from Law enforcement....

So you still haven't answered the question. You made the statement and I'm still waiting for an answer just how you will go about this quest to find the owner?? My guess is you won't have one and you will just spout some more anti police rhetoric without answering how you would do it.

..........i would have not put my prints on it.....and it would have went back in the water.

How would I know any of my firearms are stolen in the first place?

No clue how this is relevant to my above question in above post #20. It's just a meager attempt to deflect from answering the question I asked about the statement you made that you would just return it to the owner.
