Went to Garner Cabela's this past Sunday. Holiday weekend, place was a ghost town. What's going on? Sign of things to come, or just a fluke?

Also, I've seen in a couple places people saying Cabela's/Bass Pro is no longer a 2A supporter (even calling for boycott) - can anyone fill me in on what's up with that story?

I got nothing. I like Cabelas overall. Just wish them or Bass Pro would stock some 6.5 Grendel for me. But /Cabelas has a better supply of ammo than Bass Pro.

Academy has 6.5 Grendel.

I love going to Cabelas and they have great reloading supplies. In fact I need some 300blk powders. I can't pay $25 $30 for a tshirt and $100 for a pair of pants. I love their clothes too. I'm just a walmart priced shopper when it comes to anything that isnt ammo.

Yep. Just the Hornady Black. I probably buy a few boxes a month there just because I am driving by anyway. I’d like to get some more Wolf and Federal Fusion just for the heck of it.
Academy recently added the 123gr BTHP in the Black lineup for a couple of dollars less. Which I believe is a re- packaging of their American Hunter 200 pack. I'd like to find some of that too.
I'd like to try some Wolf too. Some are pulling and replacing the bullets for better performance.

Confused 'em with Gander Mtn or F&S maybe?

I've not heard anyhing except they're overpriced... but lots of retail is.
Yeah, I asked one of the people saying something, never got a response - but the site changed commenting systems the following day, so who knows...

I have a Cabelas CC but rarely ever use it anymore. They never seem to carry what I need and if they do it is always at or above the MSRP. After they dumped Herter's Decoy's (still the best diver decoy ever made and it was made in the USA!) it left a bad taste in my mouth. If BPS or Cabelas folded up tomorrow I could care less. The only one's that would lose would be the Chicoms. I put them in the same class as Walmart. Screw 'em!

I work 5 minutes from the one in Garner and haven’t been there in several months. Since the bps buy out the place has changed a lot for the worse. If I need any ammo or anything it’s a lgs or academy for me.

Didn't think of that as a proximate cause.

I also noticed that the gun counter was nowhere near as busy as it used to be, and they had removed the "take a number" system (indicating the slower business was indicative of a new norm)

I used to buy a lot of clothes at Cabelas but found out if I liked something I’d better buy it in multiples because it would be gone when I looked for another one or made a lot cheaper than the original.

Went by Cabelas the other day because they sent me a $10 off $40 coupon in the mail. A lot of the ammo price labels were wrong and some had no price at all. All the reloading supplies were at least 50% more expensive than I remember. They wanted $20 for 100 unloaded 9mm fmj Hornady bullets.

I wanted to purchase $40 of ammo and it turned out the price of one box was mislabeled. The boy at the register had no desire to help me. “I can go check the price, but it’s kind of an ordeal.”
I said, “well I don’t want this ammo at that price”. And he said “well your coupon doesn’t work unless you spend $40.”
So I said, “well keep it.” And left.

I don’t like the new Cabelas.

I used to go to the one in Charlotte but haven't been there in probably 3 or 4 years. I used to always like their gear. I have a tent that is probably 20 yo and is still in good condition. I haven't shopped there since they got bought out by Bass Pro. I feared the worst when that happened because I always felt like their gear was crap, IMO.

Academy has become my go to big box sports store. They are sticking it to the others. You guys that are smart when it comes to stock trading may want to check them out. Of course it’s probably too late.

But...if I want to buy a gun, it is always local gun store for me. I appreciate the service and the sacrifice and risk they take to be in business and almost always get a far better deal.

Trying to recall even seeing powders at mine in Rock Hill
They have a limited selection. Cabela's has a better selection by far. Have you checked out Nichol's? I've personally never been there.

Academy is owned by the Private Equity firm KKR.
