Jeep Gladiator

Offered to buy what....chassis or body?

Nosey person wants to know. o_O

Just heard through the grapevine that a shipment of ~200 new Gladiators tried to come into the port of Miami and had some customs paperwork messed up. They were refused entry and were told to sail back for new paperwork. Chrysler opted to instead remove the bodies from the chassis (apparently some loophole that allows just chassis to come in as "not vehicles"), ship the chassis somewhere for re-fitting, and destroy the bodies.

I offered to buy one on the spot for $10k...they wouldn't budge.
Where are these things being built at?

Might should have done some fact-checking before I posted...seems they're made in Toledo, OH, so I don't know why they'd be coming in by ship or have to deal with customs. However, my source is pretty reliable...so maybe there's some wires crossed in the story.

Perhaps some components come in from overseas pre-assembled and head to Toledo???

In any case, if you find a too-good-of-a-deal Gladiator int he next few months, be wary!

Got some more info...like I thought, wires crossed in the message. They're not Gladiators that were stopped at the port. They're knock-off minis that FCA sued (and won) over...but the manufacturer tries to send them anyway.

So there's the "loophole" in that the chassis is just a mini generic chassis. They have to remove the Jeep knock-off bodies.

I drove with my windshield down once when I had my old Jeep. Only once.... I took a big fat beetle to my forehead at 50mph.....
LoL my windshield never came down again :D
It’s the same way on motorcycles. I’ve had bugs leave a bruise when they hit a soft spot. Had a big beetle pop me in the forehead at about 65mph one night. Somehow it hit right between my glasses and helmet. Instant headache.

Dude, out in KS we have these flying, 230gr hardball size & weight flying beetles we call June bugs. Catch one of those in the forehead & you'll swear some kid threw a rock at you from the side of the road.

Looks decent, but too $$$ for me. Probably make a damned nice hunting rig, though.

I started riding with a full face helmet after getting hit in the throat by a huge bug away 70mph.
Never drove my jeeps with the windshield down.

Yeah I don't get the collapsible windshield. Maybe for the trail???

MAN I am behind the times!!! A 2 litre..120 ci Jeep???? I'd have to pass on that. And I love Jeeps.

Jeeps aren't jeeps if they don't have the indestructable 4.0 liter straight six that evolved from the Mopar slant six..... just saying.

"the action affects approximately 3,400 Gladiators that were delivered without grease in their monoblock joints"

That's just a F-up on the assembly line, not a major defect related to the design.

So another "Permanently Lubed Part".
When are they going to that in the engine compartment?

I haven’t read any posts, but I’ll predict in the long run this will be a bust. Kinda like the H2

Just finished my first !,000 miles. Records for first 1K indicate 20.9 MPG. Quiet as a tomb inside. Went on a little 200 mile ride yesterday with all 4 seats filled. All remarked how Quiet and comfortable. As most know I have had a New Jeep every year for about the last 10 years. Quality of ride is Nothing like the last 10 I have had. So far it's a Keeper. This may actually provide what I was doing with a New Jeep and New F150s. Sold my last 2018 Jeep and 2018 F150 truck and got one vehicle that is a Jeep Truck.

Apparently Luigi the Lube Man nodded out after a long lunch.

@BatteryOaksBilly your timing of buying a new Gladiator and selling it (if you stick to your typicall ownership schedule) will likely jive with my window being in the market for one.
Sold it TODAY!!!!!! I bought another one!!!! This time a white one. 3,600 miles on the first, averaged almost 22 mpg for it stay here. I am amazed how quiet theses things are. Oh well...…..I like New Jeeps.

I'm more scared of the "Gladiatrix" wording. The pink just draws you in for the initial baiting.

WOW! the TJ looks so narrow next to the JK's

going to make me look up the track width on both...
The 2 new ones are play toys. When i want to go in the woods I take the TJ. I grew up on CJs and would really love to have a nice one of those but they suck on the road! I’d really like to have a 74-75 Cherokee with the 360 in it!

I've got a 77 cherokee with a 401 "rotting" in my backyard...unrealized dreams...
