GSXR1000 DIRT BIKE!

Ain’t no freakin’ way ... I am only referring to dirt and motocross usage ... I remember jumping from an Elsinore 125 to 250 in the late 70’s early 80’s and the power jump was great and the weight and center of gravity shifted some but was not to bad. In the mid 80’s I test rode a CR 500 and that was a bat guano crazy beast in power that was scary plus the extra weight of the engine and beefier frame messed up the balance and ability to “throw” the bike in and out of maneuvers. That CR 500 would likely have hurt me bad if I had moved up to it. That GSX-R build will kill someone if they don’t really know what they are doing and respect that bike ... I’d probably give it an “old man” ride if I was lucky enough to be afforded the chance but nowhere near what that guy did.

Wow that guy can ride. I grew up riding dirt bikes and only 4 stroke bikes XR80 up to an XR250. I’ve run into trees enough to know I wouldn’t want to be going that fast on dirt on any bike much less a 1000 cc bike.

Young and dumb was the first thing that came to my mind. That needs be called the widow maker because I can promise you it will kill someone riding like that. Cool bike though

I rode a 250MX Yamaha and I attribute many of my aches pains to this and other dirt bikes. I'm glad that Suzuki wasn't available back in the 1970's.

I’d only ride that cruising off road, it’s WAY too heavy for off road.
My modified smoker YZ-250, bored +2mm, lowered ports, Race Tech suspension, +12oz flywheel scares the crap out of me. The problem is after 10min this 53yr old man is so pumped with Adrenalin he thinks he’s 18 and bulletproof again.
I’ve got to sell the bloody thing.

Sure you don't wanna try a KX500 first? :D

Wow ... I love the suspension setup on that YZ. What’s the rear travel on that modern marvel ... a whole 4”-5”? :p I remember in 1978 when the Elsinores went to lay down shocks and then a mono shock just before I gave up chainsaw bikes.

I shared this in a PM and decided to put it here for all to enjoy.

When I had my 250 Yamaha my buddy had a 360. We were putting a set of rings in his and he asked me, "What does the skirts on a piston do?" I told him I didn't know. He said it looked like just extra weight. He goes over to his band saw and cut them off. Took a file to the cut edges and we put it back together.

Cranked it up and it wouldn't idle under 3000 RPM and it would rev up real quick. He dropped it in gear and took off through a pasture behind the house. That damn thing would fly and felt and sounded like it would turn 25,000 RPM. Then, everything came out of the bottom and sides of the case. I've never seen so much destruction. He had a rocketship for about 10 minutes.

Later, he told me that he figured out what those skirts were for, to hold the case together. I could write a book about what me and this guy did but I'm not sure about the statute of limitations on some stuff. But, we sure did tear up a bunch of stuff along the way.

I really don't like “lol”. It’s used as, I went to the mailbox, lol, etc...
This had me laughing! As someone that’s done a bunch of stupid crap and can’t believe I’m still mostly in one piece, 24 broken bones by 18, my friends and I were the Captains of “Hey y’all, watch this.”
I can picture this guy with his legs wrapped around an aluminum bomb spinning at 25,000 rpm, feeling like the king until catastrophic metallic failure.
I raise my beer to his efforts! :D  :D

There were two fellows :)rolleyes:) that rode dirt bikes at Fisher's Peak right off the Blue Ridge Parkway. There were times that these two fellows were alleged to have blasting caps and primers in their tool bags on the bikes. Rumor has it that they would set those off in those mountains. I'll bet that really echoed through the hills. :D

That's exactly the way it happened.

I owned a 990 Adventure and 1190 Adventure R. Both were fast, but pigs off road. Still surprised how capable they were, but all that weight will mess you up.

I have a 990 Adventure now, and had a 950 Super Enduro for 5 years. They work so well off-road that they lull you into forgetting how heavy they are, until you blow through a corner trying to keep up with a guy on a 450. I had to constantly remind myself that for my skill level, they are really streetbikes.

It wouldn't matter what engine was in what frame. If it's a dirt bike, I can not ride it! I mean, I can putt around on it, but I can't ride it.

I am fairly decent with road bikes. I'm no racer, but more a middle of the pack rider. I do curves well, etc. But when it comes to dirt bikes, I never was able to figure out the mechanics. While other dudes were racing through the berms, I was going over them. :(

Oh heck yea!!!! Where do I sign up?

I'll be screaming "Momma I'm coming home" the whole time lol

I remember the first time I saw a twin turbo nitrous-injected Suzuki Hayabusa. Over 450 hp and a theoretical top speed of 280 something.
I loved it.
If someone wants to build a ridiculous monster truck dirtbike and thrash the whoop-de-do's...
I love it.

You see lots of American flags at these places.
