Bout to head up to that area for the day with mom and my brother. Gonna get some apples , and goof off. Any good places in the area for a late lunch?

HUBBA HUBBA SMOKEHOUSE
Near Skytop Orchard, which is where you need to go for the full “Apple Country” experience.

If you want to come into town, go to Mountain Deli on Main Street.

Follow his ^ advice. I’ll add in the Flat Rock Wood Room. On the short list of best BBQ places...ever.

I hate you! I used to go to Ednyville ? for training/teaching. I always loved Hendersonville so much. What an amazing place. You guys have the apple festival, right? I would drive my motorcycle instead of my police car so that I could enjoy my visit. I used to look forward to my weeks in Ednyville. Instead of going to Salemburg, I would opt for coming your way. It took a long time to get there, but it was awesome. OMG the restaurants in Hendersonville were unbelievable. It was such good living. I met a guy with the sheriff's office and I was really contemplating moving there.

The Black Rose. The BEST Reuben I've had in a while. My wife had the Portibello (sp?) burger, also good.

Please....just no.

1.5 blocks north of Black Rose is The Mountain Deli.

Without question the best pastrami, corned beef, etc in Western NC. Owned by a shooter/hunter to boot.

Let’s just say that at lunch time, you can walk right into Black Rose. At the Deli, you wait.

And it’s only 2 doors down.

What was the name of that lake? There was some lake near you that was at a crossroads? I remember going there to eat with a female detective that was training with me. There was a great place to eat right there on the river/stream. She was a photographer and we had a great time there.

Edit: I adore this place. This is God's country. I loved it and wish that I had moved there many years ago. These folks have it figured out. I couldn't move there at the time. I wanted to do it.

I've been here 16 years, I have no desire to go anywhere else.

Sounds like Lake Lure/Chimney Rock?

Have that in my calendar as a 'must eat at' for the next time!

Yes!!! Lake Lure. Exactly. I'm so jealous. You guys have it going on.

So, when I would wake up and go outside, the air was pure and clean. It was cool and clear.

@Tim , thank you for the recommendation. We’re having brisket stack sammiches at the moment and they’re awesome. Food in this place is really good

Now I'm hungry and wanting a trip up to the mountains. Fortunately, I live half way there. ;)

We had a beautiful summer this year. Not too hot, just the right amount of rain, no weird storms, low humidity.
Last week was warm, but we get that on occasion. This week, back to normal. 80 in the day, high fiddys/low sixties at night.
Whenever we have a summer like this, fall turns out to be wonderful. Great weather, beautiful leaf season.
So y'all might want to consider a visit this fall. It'll be nice.

Anyone visiting Hendersonville needs to make it to the Underground Bakery. They have the best eclair I’ve ever had, but they only have them on Saturdays. They have a small but delicious selection of breads, sweets, and coffee if that’s your thing. There is also a cheesecake place near it that just opened.
I second the Flat Rock Wood Room and Hubba Bubbas. I’d also add West First, Conosur, and Hotdog World as places you need to visit.
Hendersonville is a pretty great place to live. There really isn’t anywhere else in N.C. quite like it. The weather is usually good, the scenery is beautiful, and the people are for the most part friendly. I’ve been lucky enough to grow up here and chose to come back and stay.

Hijacking this thread rather than starting a new one. Wife and I will be up that way in November seeing a play at Flat Rock playhouse and visiting a couple days. So far we've mapped out some things to do:

Air Museum
Elijah Mtn Gem Mine
Aquarium and Shark Lab
WNC Nature Center
Maybe Jump Off Rock
Maybe the downtown scenic walk.

For food we've got Hubba Bubba's, Flat Rock Wood Room, Mcfarlan's and Underground bakery.

Anything else y'all can add?

Flat rock wood room was the shiznit. I think any food that @Tim recommends is gonna be hood

Breakfast at Honey & Salt - seriously. Just do it.

Lunch at Mountain Deli if you’re downtown. Get the pastrami Rachel. But Hubba Hubba shouldn’t be missed.

If you’re downtown for dinner, try Shine. They just opened their roof top patio, the food is better than good, but the scene is the reason to go.

Mcfarlan’s is literally 6 paces from my office door - and a few more steps will get you to @gsimmons. Get an Apple Fritter and a Boston Cream.

Aquarium and Gem mine....meh. Unless kids are in tow.

Jump Off rock is good for a quick side trip. Nice picture spot. You won’t be disappointed. If you have a bit more time, try Pretty Place at the Y camp. Jump Off rock = NYC, Pretty Place = Paris

If you have the time, historic downtown Saluda is just down the road from Hendersonville. If you do make it to SkyTop Orchards, be sure and get some of the apple donuts. The Edneyville area of Henderson County also has lots of orchards and packing houses that are open now. Most of them have an assortment of apples, pumpkins, gourds, and fall related things for sale.

Saluda is awesome.

For downtown Hendersonville, there's a new player on the food scene that I'm really liking.

Madam Roque's Meat Emporium (and tattoo parlor...). Don't let the hippy vibe on the pics in that link dissuade you, the food rocks. I had a 'zatara chicken' there yesterday that was out of this world good.

Yeah, definitely not my kind of place. Good food or no.

Had a great time up in H'ville.
The Mountain Deli's reputation is well deserved, but the Wood Room was kinda meh.

I'm extremely disappointed in you all for for neglecting to mention the Heidelberg Haus. I haven't had good German food since living in Germany and their rouladen was fantastic, as was the spatzle and the kartoffel kloesse.

Tried out a steak house called Binnion's as well. It was pretty decent.

Anyone know the guy downtown who runs the Clothes Horse Outfitters? He had an "interesting" leather CCW. ...thing...I picked up. Haven't got around to trying it, but I'll probably post a review when I do.

The Clothes Horse is directly across from my office. Are you talking about the flat leather piece with just 2 belt slots? I tossed mine out after the first day. Neat place though.

I'm glad we had a nice weekend for you!

What did you have at the Deli?

What sights did you see/do?

Yeah, that's the one. Rolled the dice, figured I could put a piece of kydex on it if it didn't work out. He was extremely proud of it and talking about patenting it, but there are lots of firearms that are going to have an exposed trigger in it.

Had the Rachel at the deli, my wife was super impressed with whatever she had- something with walnuts and cranberries. The "Hamkey" maybe?. The service there was great too. The guys working behind the counter were personable in a way you don't get most places like say, that crappy soda shop down the street.

We saw The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe at the Flatrock Playhouse. That was a good time.
Did some shopping on main st, picked up some scrubs at World of Clothes, took in a movie. Jumping Off Rock. Didn't make Hubba Hubba as they're apparently closed until sometime next year. Came home through Black Mountain and poked around there. Had a really great time.
