Ford vs. Ferrari

Looks like it might be good!

That looks awesome, I might go to theaters for that one!

Yeah I can see myself in the theatre for that one.

I'm sure it will make more of an impact on the big screen. I think that's lost on today's generation, they're so used to HBO, Netflix, Showtime, etc on TV they don't go to the theater like "we" did when we were younger.

I still vividly remember seeing Grand Prix at the Carolina theater in downtown Charlotte when it came out with a good friend. Seeing it later on TV was a letdown.

.

But why, @Gator?
Why be on THEIR schedule, when you can watch when you want from the comfort of your home.
Some movies are better in the theater, and people are going to those (ie: the Marvel movies), and I think this will be an auditory dream to hear in that sort of environment.
But I dont go to the movies much because it's parking, its large groups of strangers, it's on their schedule, it's high priced food and drink etc etc etc

For the cost of one ticket I can get a month of Netflix etc

Always liked the story about how Ford took Ferrari down a few pegs at LeMans. I plan on seeing this one.

Went to see Ford v Ferrari this evening. It is a Hollywood movie and they could not resist occasional hamming it up, but nonetheless is pretty faithful to the real story. I have to say Christian Bale and Matt Damon were brilliant. I first thought Matt Damon was a poor choice to cast as Carroll Shelby, but he overcame the physical differences and had me believing him after a few minutes. And Christian Bale couldn’t have been better.

I thought they did a poor job of depicting the racing, for a movie that cost $100 million to produce. Steve McQueen’s LeMans did a better job of capturing the reality of endurance racing, and it was a more serious piece of film (too bad it was not much of a story). If you could have had this cast and story with McQueen’s production, then you’d really have something. And of course some elements of the story were oversimplified, but you kind of had to do that or you’d have a six hour film.

Some of the supporting actors could have been a little better (Henry Ford, Commendatore Ferrari). Overall the movie would have benefited from a little less humor and a little more serious dramatic acting, but one must acknowledge the audience is broader than just race car guys. None of my criticism is meant to diminish the enjoyment of the film. I’m not sure the direction and cinematography are Oscar-worthy, but I believe the performances of Bale and Damon are. And the guy who played Leo Beebe performed his smarmy role to the hilt.

Looking forward to seeing this one. Haven’t been out to a movie with my wife in a couple years and she asked to go see it.

Looks like a good movie, the wife is out of town so I’ll be checking this one out tomorrow afternoon.

To add to the above. I never knew Shelby cars were made offsite , as I assumed they were made at the Ford/Chrysler factory. The Shelby museum is also a manufacturing facility, cars come into a Vegas by rail, get stripped and put back together with Shelby engines and parts, then get sent back to the various manufacturers for sale to consumers

Some years ago while working at VIR I had the pleasure to spend a little time chatting with Mr. Shelby and Bob Bondurant in a motorcoach and then joined them for supper. Somewhere in one of the many boxes an old man accumulates it a picture of myself with Mr. Shelby. It was a evening that ended way too quickly. I could have spent weeks listening to his stories. A true American icon.

Great movie. This was honestly one of the better movies I've seen in years. If there was cgi stuff it was so good I couldn't tell. I have never seen or heard Carol Shelby talk and didn't know the story behind Le Mans so it was very entertaining for me.

I'm admittedly not a car guy,but I enjoyed this movie.

I thought it was a great movie, and I don't get excited about movies EVER. This one has me wanting to see it again already. Stayed true enough to the story but at the same time was entertaining enough for the wife not to get lost in the car stuff.

Want to see it. When will Hollywood and the movie companies get in the 21st century and stream on demand new releases? They were doing it for a while then stopped. I dont go to the "movin pitcher" houses anymore. People dont know how to act and in my experience it's the senior citizens that act the worst. They bring them to our local movie theaters by the short bus load and they talk and visit thru the whole movie including on their phones. That and gun buster signs keep me away but I'm a big movie fan and have a home theater. Always looking for content.

Two minutes til showtime!

I enjoyed the movie. I am very familiar with the content. I never met Shelby but I hung around Holman-Moody a good bit. I owned a 2011 GT 500. Nice car. Then a 2013 boss 302. Nicer car.
After seeing the movie and thinking about the casting, I think Vince Vaughn would have been perfect in height, hair, and attitude. The first lab I ever worked in was owned by a Ford lover. He went to Charlotte to get a Cobra and came home with a new 1966 GT 350. I kinda got bit by the same bug. He had several "special" Fords. Yep...Vince Vaughn..that woulda been better.

Just got out of the movie. I thought it was great if not completely accurate. Of course I just chalk up any inaccuracies to Hollywood drama.

Netflix just released “Shelby American” ... 2 hours of interviews and such in a documentary that was partly directed Adam Carolla who is a big auto guy even if you don’t like his comedy stuff. I haven’t watched it yet but if you have Netflix it has got to be worth clicking on it to see what it has to offer.

If you have Netflix definitely take the 2 hours to watch “Shelby American” ... we watched it last night and it really gives some interesting details about Carroll Shelby’s business ventures ... along stuff from his chicken farmer overalls to unknown number of ex-wives.

Offered to take my son to see it today. He didn’t seem interested.

My 16 year old son was working yesterday or we would have taken him. Might even go see it again with him over thanksgiving break because I think he would enjoy it.

Well worth the admission price to the IMAX at Concord Mills. The wife is a fan of Lemans and Formula 1 racing.
She thoroughly enjoyed it, as did I.
We were alone in the theater on Wednesday afternoon!
