I’ve been an 870 user my whole life, and my Benelli M4 is my first shotgun that is semi auto. Loading rounds in every 870 I’ve owned has been smooth like butter. On the M4 it’s hard as hell. The shell lip always gets hung up on the shell stop and have to jam it in even harder. Makes loading 4 a nightmare since I have small hands. Sends shells flying everywhere. I noticed that the shell stop spring is stiff as hell. Do people mod these to soften them up? It’s not an issues with the magazine tube spring being too stiff. It’s strictly an issue with the thing that holds the shells in the tube. The shells get hung up because the spring is so stiff. I have to jam the shell with my thumb into the tube. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Eno's forum has a shotgun forum in the multigun section with a lot of people who have a lot of experience with Benelli's and making them fast loading.

Might be worth asking there.

Sounds exactly like my M1S90. I think it's just Benelli, and why "Benelli thumb" is a thing.

Benelli Thumb is from the friggin' short fork carrier

Taran's longer carrier non-fork fix

Oh no, I know. But the reason the carrier grabs the hell out of the back of your thumb is 1: carrier design and 2: the fact that you have to stuff shells in like you're prepping a turkey. If they were easier to get in (like my 1100 was) the lifter wouldn't matter as much!

Gotcha, I get forked by my M1 under the thumbnail when I pull my thumb out. I'm too tight to spend $80 on the Taran carrier.

I'm the same way. I got the gun in unfired condition for $700 like 7 years ago. That included the Benelli pistol grip stock. I've added a nordic extension and charge handle, but it has rifled sites on it so I am hesitant to throw any more money at it. I should just get an M4 and call it done...

Mine's old enough that it was imported by Stoeger, possibly 20+ years? I replaced the pistol grip, it caused wrist pain for a week after a few boxes of bird shot, and the drop wasn't sufficient to hit anything.
