A recent thread got me to wondering just how many ways a spent lacquer, polymer or plated steel cartridge case could be recycled in to something else. Not many people reload them to use again, but there must be some ways to do something with them besides watch them gradually rust. Anyone have any ideas?

I'll start things off with a couple of uses for spent steel cases I've tried.

1. A whistle.

2. A hole punch. I have actually done this when leather working if I didn't have access to a correct hole punch. Straight wall cases work best but bottle necked cases can be used, though it will likely take more than one as they tend to collapse.

The best use for them is irritating the brass chickens at matches who swoop in after you shoot a stage only to look in disgust that their payload is cheap Russian steel and they won’t be getting any freebies off of you.

So far the bottle openers get my vote for most useful recycling. I am, however, going to go with the 2x4 used to hold the cases as targets being the most fun sounding. There are a lot of creative people on the forum!
