In the spirit of the Halloween season, I thought others might find this interesting. Cool bit of NC history.

There's a cemetery in Beaufort that's simply called The Old Burying Grounds. It is undeniably an old cemetery, the earliest marked grave is dated to 1711. Its beautiful, peaceful old tombstones are covered with a shady canopy of moss-covered live oak trees. But there's one grave in the cemetery that has has story to tell that sadder and stranger than most, and it tells it on the simple wooden plaque that marks the grave and reads "Little Girl Buried in a Keg of Rum."

Sad to see her grave was vandalized a few years ago though. :(

When we lived in Asheboro, it was Naomi Wise. When we lived in Lumberton, it was the Beast of Bladenboro, the Devil's Tramping Ground, and the Maco light. When we lived in Greensboro, it was the girl under the bridge. My childhood was filled with NC ghosts.

Anyone else read the Nancy Roberts NC ghost story books as a kid?
