Cop shoots man thru window

Still have his dog??
Yeah, one of the first things he did was confine her.

The next morning, when he told me about the incident, his comment was. "Do you realize how horrifically sideways this could have gone if I had answered the door with a gun?"

I think a lot of these problems could be solved if police dropped the warrior attitude that they're trying to cultivate and went back to seeing themselves as public servants who protect the peace of their communities. Stop jumping at shadows, and stop seeing every person as a potential perp who's trying to kill them.

The vast majority of these wrongful shootings could have been prevented if the cops had just used their head, and asked questions, and talked to the victim, instead of clearing leather and starting shooting. We need less SWAT and a bit more Andy Taylor.
"You can't understand unless you have put on a badge and risked your life everyday. Cops have to make it home to their families."

Being a cop is a safe job, by the numbers.....sad that the police try to say other wise.

If you follow the risk logic, cab drivers and convenience store clerks should be able to shoot anyone they want.

what's even worse is, cabbies in NC can not carry any kind of weapon, whatsoever. who are they trying to protect with that law?
I think that applies to Uber drivers too. I had a long talk about carrying one evening on a ride home from the airport. SWF in a little sedan picking up strangers at night... sounds pretty GD dangerous to me.

Yep. I'm building a big ass gate at the road and only giving the combo to family and super close friends. Curtilage and all that. Oh, and looking at GSD, Rottie, and Dobermann pups.

That's interesting...I have never seen nor heard of such a law.
Do you have the Statute number or a link to it?

The Uber restriction is based on company policy.
I have not seen or heard of any law that disallows commercial drivers to carry, at least not a NC law or a Federal law.

Pretty damned telling when all the actual evidence says being a cop isn’t in the top ten dangerous jobs in the country, and that it has never been safer to be one than it is now (with data all the way back to the 1880s).
Now THAT is good info.

Even with the damn permit????

i may have used the word "law" too loosely. when my brother operated a taxi near havelock, his taxi driver permit stated that drivers were not permitted to carry any kind of weapon or pepper spray. it could have been a local municipality thing.

Uhhg, I saw a CBR that was attacked by a big mastiff pull the mastiff into the lake (by the face) and tear the sh%t out of it while almost drowning it!

Was the nicest dog, too!

Deputy came to our house at 1 a.m. the other morning. Looking for a kid whose ncdl listed his old address (now ours). Carole yelled "someone's at the back door"
I staggered out of bed and for some reason did NOT get a pistol from the drawer. Our back door open to a glassed in porch.
I told her I was sure glad I did not walk out there with a gun.
I am going to get a ring device or similar

The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses*, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

*Does not apply if some ass hat is wearing a uniform

If I call for an ambulance they arrive with lights flashing. This officer should have done the same.

The comment below was posted to that linked story.

I was a cop for 30 years with many spent as a SWAT commander. Been to many calls of guns and never shot anyone. The deputy is outside, man is inside. He was not a threat because the deputy had plenty of time, and yes, an obligation to retreat from the porch to get cover. From the reports I have seen there is no way there should have been a shooting under the circumstances of a man inside a house with a gun. Another scenario would be if the deputy saw anyone else in the house that the man was threatening but that did not happen. This is a truly chargeable crime committed by the deputy

At one time about 10 years ago, i hired as an agent a guy who had been a cabbie at RDU airport. As a result, I wound up insuring probably 60 % or more of the guys who drove out there.

Pretty sure that is a mistaken assertion. either that or the Raleigh cops did not care/know about that law.

Just about any non government/corporate job that makes you highly vulnerable to being robbed or attacked will have a policy preventing you from being armed. They aren't liable if you get shot/killed, but they are if you shoot/kill someone while on their clock. Pizza delivery, Uber, truck driver, convenience store clerk, etc. the employers all care more about saving a buck on their insurance rates than about you going home alive. Most smart people in those capacities carry anyway (I did), your job is not worth your life.

I carried while a driver for Dominoes when I was a kid. My manager knew about it and so did the store owner. No one cared. I just said "I am a sole wage earner working a second job to feed a wife and two kids and am NOT going to risk my kids future over some punk who wants to kill a pizza guy for 20 dollars. Fire me if you have to."
The franchise owner just told me to use common sense.

One that me and a buddy got a ride from in bossier city did, and he couldn't bring us on base with it so the cops gave us a lift back to the barracks.

According to that second article the officer stepped into the home, and then backed out before firing on the homeowner. If the homeowner was so aggressive, then why did he not get a shot off? It's a shame that the deputy was cleared.
