I just landed in London for a work trip this week. Big change from the farms of Eastern NC. First observation is the English language is not spoken much amymore. Some form of Arabic or African tongue is predominate.

Has anyone been here and can recomend places to check out. Staying in SoHo. Thinking about the Royal Airforce Aviation Museum. I read all the cigar shops are cuban only so might have to check those out.

Have a hard time believing all those pasty white folks have adopted arabic or african languages
Who have you come in contact with so far, Uber drivers?

Get down to a pub, watch the Panters play some ball live

Iā€™ve probably told this story before...

Maybe 30ish years ago, I was in London for an important meeting. At midday, my hosts apologized that their favorite dining spot was closed as it was just days before Christmas. They asked whether it would be ok to take me to a pub as it was the only nearby option still open. I explained Iā€™d been wanting to experience a pub for most of my adult life. So, off we went.

Arriving, it was exactly as pictured in the movies. Dark, a roaring fire and a wench dressed in oneā€™a those outfits that put her possessions on display quite nicely. My three hosts all ordered Bangers & Mash. When she asked for my order, I explained it was my first time and I wanted to experience the quintessential pub grub and to just surprise me.

A while later, she appeared with the three servings for the hosts and then disappeared. Moments later, I heard a sizzling sound and saw her approaching me with a large platter. What did she set in front of me?

Fajitas

First lesson learned; Brits donā€™t know diddly about Messican food. ;)

London is majority immigrants these days, Steven Fry got raked over the coals for daring to notice and comment on it not too long ago.

Nothing is too far away in terms of distance. I recommend the Imperial War Museum, the Victoria and Albert Museum and pretty much every museum founded before the 2000s. A trip to Duxford to see all the planes is always worth it. It's been so long since I was there it's hard to remember honestly lol.

If you go north out of Kings Cross and pass through a town called Stevenage that's where I was born.

Yea couple tube trips, the heathrow express, up and down Picadilly street and two hotels so far.

Maybe being a weekend the locals are hiding from these tourists.

Picking up a pint and a pie right now Sun just set.

You just missed em!

Thanks for the tips!

If you want to watch some weird people go to Camden Locks (sp?). I've not laughed much since walking around there. Yes, it was so much fun I've been a few times.

While you're in the area go a bit further north and go to the RAF museum. Awsome as most of the UK museums.

Yes the RAF museum is on my list. Today I got off the main streets and found more locals. If you can't find anything you like to eat it is your own fault. Hit a few pubs. brewdog beers was pretty good local brews.

Thanks yall!

Well still hanging on. Work 7-11 is keeping me from doing much as I hoped. I've been lost a few times and found some nice little spots. If I stayed here longer I think I'd have to fit in the cargo hold not the seats. I haven't had a bad meal yet. I'd have to say the "American burger" I ate in haste (only few mins for dinner) this evening is up there on the top burgers I've ever eaten. Beer is pricy at $7.50 a can or $10 a pint in the pubs. Getting off the tourist trap areas has shown more English accented folks. Planning out Saturday to hit Windsor Castle then over to the imperial war museum then tube it up to the RAF museum.

I asked a coworker about guns here and the vetting process is crazy for a shot gun.
