MORELIA, Mexico – State police expected the worst when they ventured into the wild township of Aguililla to serve a single warrant. Commanders sent 42 officers in five trucks.

It wasn't enough. More than 30 suspected drug cartel gunmen were waiting for them Monday, some in vehicles that were apparently armored, prosecutors in Mexico's western state of Michoacan said.

Officials said the gunmen opened up on the police convoy with .50 caliber sniper rifles and AR-15 and AK-47 assault rifles.

Thirteen officers were killed, some of their bodies still inside the patrol trucks when the vehicles were set afire. Nine other officers were wounded.

I don't think Mexico has that many pesos in the treasury.
Sounds like time for them to liquidate some other assets to secure their interior. I know they have holdings in the US that could easily be liquidated to give them funding, but they're going to need to do a lot more to secure which ever airbase they're staging the gunship missions.

Then they can protest that the cops don't need AR's, body armor and MRAPS.

No mention that the bad guys got all their stuff from the US, because it's our fault don't ya know. I'm pretty sure they forgot to mention that.

This is what happens when the police have zero legitimacy. Which is what seems to be happening here for both real reasons and BLM BS.

The Policia has been terribly understaffed and under-equipped and under-armed. The people who join the police in Mexico, they're either corrupt or targets.

I feel sorry for the targets. Those who sign up to try to do some actual good are sold out by the sellouts.

Exactly. We often say/think, “fix home, don’t just flee illegally across the border”, but the chances of getting killed if you try are very high. This is one of those times I would love to see the US just bomb the hell out of known cartel bases and assassinate cartel/corrupt leaders. Unfortunately they are far more barbaric/violent than our laws allow us to be.

I don't think they are all corrupt. I don't like either/or binary choices. But I sure do think a lot of them are.

It seems they are corrupt or their superiors are corrupt. Either way they are screwed. Blow it up. Start over. That society sucks and they won’t make us better.

Ain’t gonna happen. We have the most advanced military and intelligence agencies on Earth. If our Reps wanted this problem solved it would be. There is massive money to be made by the continuation of the the drug trade. The CIA, FBI and other groups are well served by the drug trade.

The police in Mexico are not well paid or well equipped. They can justify a little graft because they need the extra income in order to do the job. But you can't be a little bit corrupt for long like you can't be just a little bit pregnant. Once you take the first bribe or extort the first "mordida" (little bite) you will have given others power over you.

No one really wants to deal with the drug Cartels/Dealers because too many people like the recreational aspect of drugs.

I believe we should deal with them very harshly.

I have an issue calling it the war on drugs but not using tactics like drones that are used in Yemen and Afghanistan. If it’s ok in the Middle East it’s ok close to home. F Mexico leadership. Que The Gap Band hit single.

I didn't say it was safe. Just knew a lot of people who were into it in the '80's. All of them stopped after college.
I was just being sarcastic. I'm not against people putting anything they want up their nose or in their arm. I'm just against NARCAN.
