8 shot in Durham in less than 24hrs

Well, when one of the first things the new chief of police does is get rid of the gang unit and the city council turns down a request for more officers, then what the h.... do you expect to happen? Violent crime is up in Durham 42% this year over last year. So glad I moved out of the city

Drive by shooting does not seem to be the best way to hit somebody you want to hit. Hitting a moving target from a fixed position is easier, in my experience, than hitting a stationary target from a moving position. I would think that they would sneak up on their intended victims, blaze away, and then haul boogie away from the scene of the fireworks if they wanted to be successful. I think the maggots probably have been watching too many prohibition era Chicago gang movies. The Chicago gangsters often had full auto weapons that most modern day "gangsters" do not have. Perhaps it is just a gang thing that is not intended to kill anybody even though if occasionally does.

my brother used to be the manager of an Advance Auto store on Holliway Street I think. Always saw hypodermics and spent casings in the parking lot (this was in the late 90s). He used to carry at work because of the wonderful clientelle.

I'm not sure. I lived in Jacksonville and only went up there occasionally. I just think that area was "the other side of the tracks" and it was a gathering spot after hours too.

That was the first place I ever saw they put plexiglass covers locked on the spray paint racks.

Of course. They’re 13% of the population and hence can’t possibly commit more than 13% of the crime.

What a s#it hole. I recently took a friend to Duke for a treatment he could not drive home from. Duke Hospital itself is a cluster f#ck, then add that it is in Durham, then the super friendly non medical professional people that "work" there. Told my wife if I'm in a coma and need specialized medicine, take me to UNC and I hate Chapel Hill, Carolina and anything Carolina blue. There was a recent spate of car break ins during the day time at the various medical bldgs parking lots. There were surveillance cameras, arrests, suspended sentences due to them being non violent offenders and the jails are full of violent offenders so they get bounced, re-arrested in days, and bounced again. I dont know how they put a stop to it unless they just started handing out money or Air Jordans to the little bastards. Cheaper in the long run. I recommend nuking the place from a high orbit. It's the only way to be sure.

Funny. Just today I watched a guy (try to) make make a left hand turn onto a two lane road. The wheels were so big they couldn't clear the fenders and rubbed horribly, his turning radius was reduced such that he would have impacted the far curb had he not stopped, backed up straight, and gave it another go forward.

Such a useful mod. Improved handling and 5hp on the top end to boot!
 
Growing up in Durham was great atleast till the late 1960's and mid 70's. Then all the RACIAL CRAP like the sit ins at Woolworths lunch counter ( yes there was one in Durham to)started and the city went to SH%T. Drug dealers moved in ,gangs started and many trashy people move there . I was working as a LEO then (1974)murder ,rapes ,first degree burgleries ,car theft ,home invasions, and gang related crimes,mostly black on black, you name it ,It all came to Durham. So in the late 90's I had enough and got the hell out . Durham is a cesspool of the worst kind. I can't beleive that they are trying to revitalize downtown Durham.Some of the old slums have been torn down and new "houses "have been built but it has not changed the trash that lives in them.I had to get the hell out . Now Im 50+ miles away and nothing has changed,well it has because its gotten worse. The Sheriff and police department has gone to hell in a handbag but thats what the liberals wanted so thats what they got . The city needs to wake up and stop wasting tax payers money.

Seems kind of random. Liberty and Dillard is literally the ABC11 studio. Also fairly close to the police headquarters.

But she says the lack of legislation on gun control hinders her efforts.

"We have illegal guns that are being trafficked through our city," she said. "We also have straw buyers...individuals who will buy a gun for someone else. We have legal gun owners who unfortunately don't secure their weapons."

Gun owners not securing their weapons is a problem, if it happens. But the first two things mentioned are definitely already illegal. How can passing new laws prevent law breakers from breaking the new laws?
 
New laws is never the answer especially when the Durham DA's office will only try slam dunk gun felonies. See the linky in my post above. A shooting bud turned me on to that story. Interesting that a sister s#it hole city newspaper broke the story.
 
This crap is appalling. I totally understand why folks say Durham is a shit hole. And at the same time, most places and many folks are good here. The thing that gets me is when the politicians keep saying it is about lack of jobs and affordable housing. Give me a break. There has been so much development going on, anyone with a heartbeat who can show up could have a job here. Get a roommate or two and there are plenty of affordable, decent places around in good neighborhoods.

The kicker is that I bet there are less than fifty guys who are the root of almost all of the bloodshed. They need to stop getting slapped on the wrist and turned loose to escalate their wild west outlaw fantasies.

Try them in federal court, imprison them for ten years at least three states away, discontinue all benefits to their entire family, and I bet this crap behavior would drop like a rock. I am sick of paying for the dysfunction in the schools, in the homes, on the streets, and in the hospitals. The bastards are literally and figuratively bleeding the place dry, and you never know when you're going to cross paths with one of theses sociopaths.

Arrests, courts, and jails are not going to stop this. The trash needs to be taken out. Back in the old days it would have. I don’t know when society became so soft and required sanitization of justice.
 
Sounds like someone is randomly targeting innocent victims:

Durham Police got a shots fired call from the VA Police at 11:37. Officers learned a woman's car was shot at as she turned onto Fulton Street when someone in another car opened fire. Five bullets hit her car as she drove away.

There is no suspect information or apparent motive in that shooting.

Eight minutes later at 11:45, another shots fired call came in from a man driving south on I-85. The man said someone in a dark-colored car shot at his vehicle from behind him. His vehicle had 12 bullet holes in it.

I'm sorry you had a bad experience at Duke. You do realize that Duke is one of the best hospitals in the world right? It does not it mean we're perfect, I worked at UNC and have worked at Duke now for 16 years, I'd put my life in the hands of both hospitals and be comfortable.

Even with the shootings in news, I feel perfectly safe being in 99% of the city. I am also safe in that 1%, I just know when to go there. Durham such a cesspool that property value is rising 300% downtown, and it's consistently voted one of the best places to work.

Like the T-shirt says, "I would rather die of gunshot and Durham than boredom in Cary."
